Lighting experts help convenience store in Widnes cut energy bills by 79%
A CONVENIENCE store in Widnes has slashed its CO2 emissions and energy bills with the help of a Manchester-based lighting company.
Experts at MHA Lighting have helped the Spar store in Halton View Road cut its energy bills by 79% and reduce 210 tons of CO2 emissions by installing LED lighting.
Owner and franchisee Raj Dhillon opted for LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting as part of an initiative led by Spar head office that encourages franchisees to reduce CO2 in its stores.
Mr Dhillon said: “I am very pleased with MHA Lighting’s bespoke lighting system.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs.
“The new LED lighting has improved visibility in the store and customers have commented on how much brighter and larger the store now appears.
“There was no disruption to my business as they were able to install the lighting outside of the store’s opening hours and I was also able to purchase the lighting system with no capital outlay via the Carbon Trust Loan Scheme.”
The lighting system is low-maintenance and can run for 60,000 hours of continuous use.
