World’s Most Famous Bell Now Shines Brightly Thanks To New LED Lighting By MSi

World’s Most Famous Bell Now Shines Brightly Thanks To New LED Lighting By MSi
The Liberty Bell, Symbol of America’s Freedom and Independence, Now Gleams Under the Glow of MSi’s Super Efficient LED Lights. The National Park Service Recently Installed 2700 iPAR 38 Lamps Ensuring That ThisHistoric Icon Shines Day and Night Symbolizing the Ideals
and Beliefs Upon Which This Country Was Founded.

Recently the National Park Service made the decision to install over 2700 MSi iPAR 38 LED lights to illuminate the Liberty Bell located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2003 the bell was moved into the new Liberty Bell Center, a glass and steel pavilion that allows it to be viewed by the public 24 hours a day,However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly seven days a week. This new setting is perfectly suited for the kind of efficient, bright and long burning light provided by LEDs.

Cast with the lettering “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof,” this 2,It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing.000 lb. bell has stood as a symbol of American freedom for over 200 years. The National Park Service moved the Liberty Bell to its new home to allow easier viewing by the many visitors who come to see it each year. A special feature of the Liberty Bell Center are glass walls providing viewing of the bell both day and night. This is the ideal setting for LEDs that offer many advantages over traditional tungsten lights that had been previously used.

“First let me say how proud we are to be lighting the Liberty Bell,” said Bruce Johnson, MSi managing partner. “It is a great honor, but it is also a perfect place to showoff the many bonuses offered by our LED lights.”

LEDs offer many advantages over the tungsten halogen lamps traditionally found lighting important artifacts - chief among them are cost savings in energy and maintenance. LED lights consume far less energy and produce almost no heat meaning reduced cost for both electricity and cooling.Although this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED salesCompact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs. Exhibit spaces will also realize savings in the costs of lamp replacement and the manpower that requires. In the situation found at the Liberty Bell Center the typical tungsten halogen light burning day and night will typically need replacement every two months. The equivalent LED light burning 24 hours a day will last up to 7 years.

Another big advantage to using MSi LEDs to light important artifacts is its contribution to their preservation. Many materials can suffer damage and fading as a result of long term exposure to the ultraviolet and infrared light waves that are produced by tungsten halogen lighting. The light emitted by LED’s contains neither of these harmful wavelengths that can result in damage to priceless historic artifacts.

“The color rendering index of our newest LED’s now meet or exceed that of the traditional tungsten halogen lighting,” added Johnson. “That means that museums and exhibit spaces like the Liberty Bell Center can now realize all the cost savings and preservation benefits of LED lighting and allow visitors to view objects and colors the way they were intended to be seen.”

Puffers in a huff protest new smoking laws

Puffers in a huff protest new smoking laws along Coney Island Boardwalk and beach
Fuming over the new parks smoking ban, a cigarette-puffing crowd protested Saturday by lighting up along the Coney Island Boardwalk.

No Park Police came into sight during the hour-and-a-half exercise in civil disobedience led by Citizens Lobbying Against Smoker Harassment, or CLASH.

Along the section of beach near Brighton Sixth St., Howard Yourow called the ban illegal and unconstitutional, as he carefully cut the tip of a Dominican "Punch" cigar.

"Here we are, the great outdoors, the beach and the huge sky," he said, barefoot and wearing a pin that read "I smoke and I vote."

"For them to ban smoking in the great outdoors is an overreach of power," Yourow said.

He then stuffed a pipe, a cigar and a cigarette into his mouth - all at once.

The City Council voted in February to prohibit smoking in pedestrian plazas,The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting. 1,700 city parks and playgrounds, along with 14 miles of public beaches. The newest ban went into effect this week.

Violators face $50 fines. Parks Department enforcement officers, not the NYPD, are in charge of issuing the tickets.

A Daily News staffer got the first ticket on Friday, but only after six hours of wandering the High Line and the Coney Island beach with cigarettes.

"Park Enforcement officers ..While SmartView has been slow DSTT and unstable in the past, it seems to have improved greatly with recent updates.. do have the ability to issue summonses to those who do not comply with the parks rules, and when possible will educate and advise before taking further action when overseeing compliance," a Parks spokesperson said.

CLASH founder Audrey Silk has been huffing and puffing about smoking bans since then-Gov. George Pataki's 1999 cigarette tax hike.

"[Politicians] have preferred to rescind our civil liberties rather than advise the public to walk away," she said.Philips LED business is inside of Philips lighting so it Led light is more difficult to determine whether they are meeting expectations. "What a tyranny we're living under that they make these decisions on a whim? We smoked before the ban, we're going to smoke after the ban."

Jack Kovalev, 21, agreed that people should be able to smoke: "Everyone's stressed out in this city," he said. "Cigarettes take that stress off."

But Galina Turalina, 21, was appalled.

"I'm shocked!" the visitor from Philadelphia said. "It's embarrassing. In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly I've never seen a group of people gathering in favor of smoking. Is this what we're teaching our children?"

Ten-year-old Gabriela Centeno of Brighton Beach, echoed that sentiment. The Public School 253 student thinks the ban is healthy for the future of New York.

"I think it's a good choice because there can be secondhand smoke and people can get asthma, lung cancer and get sick," she said, while walking along the beach with her grandmother and baby brother.

Then there's Yakov Elperin, 67, of Brighton Beach. He doesn't smoke, but he believes people should have the right.

"We're opposed to people smoking inside," he said on behalf of himself and his wife, Polina, who nodded in agreement.Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs. "But on the Boardwalk and the beach? Come on, it's a free country."

Bulb warnings are light on facts

Bulb warnings are light on facts
The resistance to the socialist assault on free enterprise has a new mascot: the Edison lightbulb.

The government says they use too much energy.

According to some Republicans, liberals are soon going to make you buy expensive new alternatives to the incandescent bulbs, like those weird curly-cue compact fluorescent bulbs, or worse yet, LED bulbs that go for $50 apiece.

"Enough!" says a fundraising letter making the rounds from a conservative political action committee that draws a political line in the sand over lightbulbs.

"The Democrats have already voted to BAN our conventional lightbulbs (that you and I use even today!) in favor of DANGEROUS fluorescent lightbulbs."

But it's about more that just lightbulbs, the letter argues. It's about "putting an end to governmental interference in our lives!"

The letter comes from AmeriPAC, a political action committee that largely supports conservative Republican candidates, and the Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise Action Fund.

The letter seeks contributions and support for S.B. 395, the Better Use of Light Bulbs (BULB) Act,Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs. sponsored by U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi,In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly R-Wyo., which seeks to repeal the lightbulb efficiency standards included in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.

The letter encapsulates many of the arguments put forth by opponents of the new lightbulb efficiency standards, and so PolitiFact decided to check some of the rhetoric, starting with the central claim that, "Democrats have already voted to ban our conventional lightbulbs (that you and I use even today!) in favor of dangerous fluorescent lightbulbs."

First, it's not accurate to pin the law entirely to Democrats. It's true that more Democrats than Republicans voted for the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.Philips LED business is inside of Philips lighting so it Led light is more difficult to determine whether they are meeting expectations. But it got a measure of bipartisan support and it was signed by Republican President George W. Bush. The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting.

More important, the law does not ban incandescent lightbulbs. The law is technology-neutral; it requires that new lightbulbs meet new efficiency standards. Essentially, lightbulbs have to be about 25 percent more energy efficient while still putting off the same amount of light. It's true that the traditional versions of incandescent lightbulbs do not meet those new standards and will be phased out of existence. Compact fluorescent and LED bulbs offer more efficient alternatives, but if incandescent light is your thing, the major lightbulb makers have you covered. They are now selling halogen incandescent bulbs that meet the new efficiency standards.

One of the letter's worst inaccuracies is that "You will be mandated by federal law to get rid of your existing lightbulbs."

There is nothing in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 that requires you to get rid of the lightbulbs you've got. Rather, the bill sets standards for new lightbulbs "manufactured or imported" to the United States.

According to a spokeswoman for the Department of Energy, not only can people keep using their existing bulbs, stores can continue to sell the old ones — even after the new standards are in place — until they are sold out.

Or, as Steven Nadel, executive director of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, put it, "There are no energy police coming to your home to make you remove your lightbulbs."

One of the biggest gripes about the new law is that it will force consumers to buy lightbulbs that are significantly more expensive than conventional lightbulbs sold today.

"Democrats in Congress passed legislation that raises the cost of a single lightbulb to $50!" the letter claims.

That is in reference to a May 16 Associated Press story about two leading lightbulb makers showcasing LED bulbs that are bright enough to replace the 100 watt lightbulbs that will be phased out in January — and which were projected to cost about $50 each.

Later, the letter claims that "the new lightbulbs will cost roughly six times the cost of the lightbulbs we now use."

That comes from a U.S. News and World Report story which states, "Each cone-shaped spiral CFL (compact fluorescent light) costs about $3, compared with 50 cents for a standard bulb."

There are, however, two major problems with the claims. First, there are two costs to a lightbulb: the front-end cost of a lightbulb at the store and the cost of electricity to operate it. The letter fails to consider the savings to consumers in the form of lower electricity bills, which the Department of Energy estimates will far outweigh the additional up-front cost of the alternative lightbulb options.

The other problem is the assumption that consumers will have no options come January when the new efficiency standards kick in. Even if you consider only the up-front cost of lightbulbs, consumers would not be obligated to buy LED bulbs that cost as much as $50 apiece; nor would they be forced to purchase fluorescent alternatives that go for $3 apiece. There also are halogen incandescent bulbs for $1.49. It's true that all of these options will cost more at the store than traditional incandescent bulbs cost today. But when you factor in the cost of electricity needed to power the lightbulb, they will end up costing significantly less.

Last, PolitiFact looked into claims that compact fluorescent lightbulbs are "toxic" and "not environmentally friendly" because they contain a small amount of mercury.

Compact fluorescent lightbulbs do contain a small amount of mercury,While SmartView has been slow DSTT and unstable in the past, it seems to have improved greatly with recent updates. which is a toxic substance. But government and environmental officials say the risk they pose is very small, particularly if the lightbulbs are disposed of properly and cleaned up properly if one shatters. Moreover, the dire warnings from opponents of the law fail to acknowledge that there is a price to pay for sticking with less efficient traditional incandescent lightbulbs. Those bulbs require far more electricity to operate, and, if they are powered by coal-fired power plants, result in even more mercury emitted into the environment.

Madison Council being asked to reject solicited bids

Madison Council being asked to reject solicited bids
The Madison City Council will be asked at its meeting tonight to reject all solicited bids for LED street lights at the Madison Public Works facility and the Madison Public Library.Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one.

Director of Finance Lillie Causey has submitted the request to reject the bids which were opened May 18 and drew four bidders.

The evaluation committee, made up of the purchasing division of the engineering department and grant consultant Kristen Kulavich, reviewed all bids submitted by the contractors and determined the prices of all bids are "unreasonable (excessive) and it is not in the best interest of the City to accept any of the bids."

The evaluation committee requests the council to reject all bids and authorize the purchasing division to solicit new bids.

"They were just too expensive," said Council President Tommy Overcash.

San Ramon may have nothing on Blue Hill, Mass., Dodge City, Kansas, or Amarillo,it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area. Texas where the annual average wind speed blows between 13.5 to a whopping 15.4 miles per hour.sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others

Like much of the East Bay, San Ramon experiences light winds of about 10 miles per hour in the morning and up to 12 miles per hour in the afternoons, barring any storms or other inclement weather patterns, said Steve Anderson, a forecaster for the National Weather Service.

But for 22 years, the San Ramon Art and Wind Festival has held strong in the city and is once again expected to draw an estimated 60,000 people over its two-day Memorial Weekend run on Sunday and Monday.

The city's signature event began as a street fair and morphed into its current format following the opening of Central Park to showcase one of its assets.

"We didn't have a food crop here, so we couldn't do a garlic festival or a strawberry festival," said Program Manager Kim Giuliano. "We thought something we do have a lot of in this area is wind -- it comes through the Crow Canyon."

One group hoping to capitalize on some gusty gales is a delegation from Weifang, China. The city is home to the world's largest kite museum and a renowned yearly International Kite Festival that brings together flying enthusiasts from 23 countries.

Seven representatives from Weifang, including kite flyers and folk artists, are scheduled to participate throughout the festival demonstrating

their talents alongside the other professionals who travel to San Ramon for the occasion. This will be the group's first trip to the United States.

Dougherty Valley-San Ramon Rotary Club member Kay Wang brought the idea to the city staff of arranging the delegation's trip after traveling to Weifang and attending what she called their eye-opening festival.

"It's magnificent," she said.Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one.

Wang said Chinese-style kites differ from those made in America, particularly because they use bamboo-framed kites that are usually hand-painted on silk or other materials, making each one unique. They also use kites equipped with LED lights to fly at night. While SmartView has been slow DSTT and unstable in the past, it seems to have improved greatly with recent updates.

In addition to the festival activities, the Chinese delegation will also take part in a special cultural exchange event and hands-on workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Dougherty Station Community Center, 17011 Bollinger Canyon Rd.

The event, hosted by the Rotary Club, will feature indoor kite flying and demonstrations of Weifang's three main folk arts: kite making, paper cutting and wood-block printing.

Wang said she hopes the delegation's involvement will serve as a good chance for people to come and learn about a different culture and for the local Chinese community to get to know each other better.Thankfully a new form of led strip energy-efficient light bulbs have arrived that provide this desired feature.

Like the kite flyers, the six hot air balloon pilots slated to launch on Monday morning between 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. in the soccer field near the Central Park tennis courts will be hoping for good climate conditions.

"The most subjective part of weather is wind -- it's really difficult to forecast that," said Gary Michalek, a pilot who organizes the yearly launch.

The balloons don't follow a set path. Michalek said they literally go where the wind takes them usually east -- and the pilots must decide whether or not to go over the Altamont Pass or land first. Last year they made it to the Tracy Airport 25 miles away.

Other flying-related activities include hang-gliding demonstrations, helicopter fly-overs and landings and the popular candy drop via kite, which will take place each day at 11 a.m.

The festival will also feature 200 arts and crafts booths, numerous bands, dance troops and theater groups performing on three stages and a kid's zone with rides and activities.

These findings could shine some light on neural mechanisms of the human brain, writes Carl E Schoonover and Abby Rabinowitz

Treating anxiety no longer requires pills or psychotherapy. At least,Thankfully a new form of led strip energy-efficient light bulbs have arrived that provide this desired feature. not for a certain set of bioengineered mice. In a study recently published in the journal Nature, neuroscientists turned these prey into bold explorers with the flip of a switch. The group, led by Karl Deisseroth, a psychiatrist and researcher at Stanford, employed an emerging technology called optogenetics to control electrical activity in a few carefully selected neurons.

First they engineered these neurons to be sensitive to light. Then, using implanted optical fibres, they flashed blue light on a specific neural pathway in the amygdala, a brain region involved in processing emotions. And the mice, which had been keeping to the sides of their enclosure, scampered freely across an open space.

While such tools are very far from being used or even tested in humans, scientists say optogenetics research is exciting because it gives them extraordinary control over specific brain circuits – and with it, new insights into an array of disorders, among them anxiety and Parkinson’s disease.

Mice are very different from humans, as Deisseroth acknowledged. But he added that because “the mammalian brain has striking commonalities across species,” the findings might lead to a better understanding of the neural mechanisms of human anxiety.

David Barlow, founder of the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders at Boston University, cautions against pushing the analogy too far: “I am sure the investigators would agree that these complex syndromes can’t be reduced to the firing of a single small neural circuit without considering other important brain circuits, including those involved in thinking and appraisal.” But a deeper insight is suggested by a follow-up experiment in which Deisseroth’s team directed their light beam just a little more broadly, activating more pathways in the amygdala. This erased the effect entirely, leaving the mouse as skittish as ever. This implies that current drug treatments, could also in part be working against themselves.

Not on humans, anytime soon...

Optogenetics, which can focus on individual circuits with exceptional precision,In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly may hold promise for psychiatric treatment. But Deisseroth and others caution that it will be years before these tools are used on humans, if ever. The procedure involves bioengineering that most people would think twice about. First,However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. biologists identify an opsin, a protein found in photosensitive organisms like pond scum that allows them to detect light. Next, they fish out the opsin’s gene and insert it into a neuron within the brain, using viruses that have been engineered to be harmless “disposable molecular syringes,” as Anderson calls them.

There, the opsin DNA becomes part of the cell’s genetic material,While SmartView has been slow DSTT and unstable in the past, it seems to have improved greatly with recent updates. and the resulting opsin proteins conduct electric currents – the language of the brain – when they are exposed to light. (Some opsins, like channelrhodopsin, which responds to blue light, activate neurons; others, like halorhodopsin, activated by yellow light, silence them.)

Future looks bright for LED light bulbs, but not immediately

Future looks bright for LED light bulbs, but not immediately
You may have started to see some odd-looking — and expensive — light bulbs show up at your local home-improvement store.

Earlier this year, Home Depot started selling a Philips AmbientLED bulb that is designed to replace the standard 60-watt light bulb. If you'd seen it, you might have quickly passed it by after seeing its price: a whopping $40 each.

But it's worth another look, if only because many people are betting the bulb represents the future of home lighting. These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, some 971 million 60-watt light bulbs are in use in the United States, mostly in homes. To encourage energy efficiency, the government is raising energy standards for light bulbs, which will mean a ban on incandescent bulbs in coming years.

Currently, the main alternative to incandescent bulbs is the compact fluorescent light. These are also used as art light as well, it is because crystal these lights did not emit any harmful rays and the bluish color of LED lights makes a painting look very different from others and makes them attractive for the viewers. But while CFLs have grown in popularity in recent years, many consumers have resisted them. CFLs are far more energy efficient than their incandescent equivalents and last much longer but have significant drawbacks.

One big negative is that they contain mercury, meaning they're unsafe to be thrown out in the regular trash and require thoughtful cleanup when they break. Many are slow to reach full brightness, even those billed as "instant on." And though their price has come down markedly in the past 10 years, CFLs still cost significantly more than incandescents.

What's more, while CFLs outlast incandescents, their life spans tend to be shorter than advertised. Most CFLs can't be dimmed. And many consumers despise the blue-green light many CFLs emit.

For those reasons, many lighting experts in government and the lighting and technology industries are betting LED bulbs will be the eventual replacement for incandescents. They don't contain mercury, are truly instant-on,These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device. and the new 60-watt-equivalent bulbs typically can be dimmed.

Meanwhile, LED bulbs are expected to have life spans several times that of even CFLs. And they've been designed to emulate the light of incandescent bulbs.

At about 12 to 13 watts, they use slightly less energy than CFLs and less than one-quarter of the energy of a 60-watt bulb. And unlike CFLs or incandescents, they're based on the same rapidly improving semiconductor technology found in the chips inside your PC and smartphone.

Thanks to that, LED bulbs should get more efficient in coming years. The Department of Energy has set a target to have a 60-watt-equivalent bulb use just 10 watts — and some folks in the industry think they can get the energy use down even lower.

LED bulbs have been around for many years, but the initial 60-watt-equivalent bulbs mostly were made by off-brands and startup companies and sold only by enthusiast websites. While you could find some LED bulbs in major stores over the past year or so, they tended to be for use in recessed lighting or for replacing lower output incandescents.

Now they're being produced by major lighting companies, including Philips and Sylvania, and are being backed by major retailers, including Home Depot and Lowe's.

Lowe's started selling Sylvania's 60-watt-equivalent bulb online late last year and recently began offering it in stores. You want someone that has the experience in LED lighting to guide you to the right product shinebright that is best suited to your project. In addition to the Philips bulb, Home Depot has begun selling a 60-watt-equivalent LED bulb from Lighting Science Group in some of its stores under its house brand, EcoSmart.

In recent months, I've been testing out the Philips and the EcoSmart bulbs. The best thing I can say about them is that as strange as they may look — the Philips bulb has yellow glass segmented by three metal grooves and the EcoSmart bulb has what looks to be a squashed glass head — the light they give off is unremarkable. It's bright and warm, but, to my eye at least, basically indistinguishable from what would be produced by an incandescent light.

The bulbs give off more light — measured in lumens — than a standard 60-watt bulb. And the coatings used on their glass are designed to filter the light they emit so it appears more "natural."

You probably will want to hold off on buying such bulbs for now because their cost outweighs their advantages. Even factoring in the LEDs' longer expected life spans — which have yet to be confirmed — CFLs are a better deal for now.It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects.

But keep an eye on the LED bulbs. They're a bright idea in lighting and very likely the bulbs of the future.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Review by Taylor

We have now had several tablets in the house here at PhoneDog and the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is one of the cheapest and most well-rounded of them all. Still in an unproven market, the tablet world has yet to see a serious competitor under the $500 mark until the Transformer. It is available in two different versions: the 16GB model for $400 or 32GB for $500.

Design & Features

Autobots, roll out! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

When I ordered the Transformer, I honestly expected a poor to low quality product. I had skimmed some other reviews just to see some initial thoughts on build quality and if the device was even worth buying. When it came in the mail, I ripped open the box to a device with surprisingly high build quality. Surprisingly, the Transformer is made of high quality materials, has awesome specifications, and can easily hang with its more expensive counterparts.

The Transformer is big. At 10.7-inches wide by 6.7-inches tall, it is both wider and taller than the Motorola XOOM and it looks plain silly in portrait mode. The face of the device is fitted with a 10.1 LED (1280 by 800 pixel resolution) display that is covered by Gorilla Glass, a 1.3-megapixel resolution camera for video chatting,It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects. and a light sensor. Along the bronze metal band around the edge of the device, you will find a 3.5mm headphone jack, a mini HDMI out port, a speaker, and a (working) microSD card slot on the right. The bottom edge holds the proprietary ASUS charging port and two holes that are used to securely latch onto the keyboard dock. On the left edge of the device are the volume rocker, power button, and another speaker. Alone on the back of the device is the 5-megapixel shooter. The back is also made of a brown texturized plastic that allows for good grip and a solid feel.

The keyboard dock is made primarily out of the same materials as the Transformer. The top half (the side with the actual keyboard) is made of metal and colored to match the bronze strip around the edge of the tablet. The keys are raised and separated, making it easy to navigate without looking and very easy to get accustomed to – which is necessary, because it's a considerable bit smaller than your average keyboard. The bottom half of the keyboard is covered by the same material as the backside of the tablet, and it has four rubber feet on each corner to keep it from sliding. The right edge of the dock holds one USB port for external storage and a full SD card slot to easily share those pictures directly from your camera. The left edge has the charging port (same proprietary port that the tablet uses to charge) and another USB port.

When the two devices are attached, the Transformer looks very similar to any other ASUS netbook, open or closed. The only thing that truly gives it away is the large, abnormal hinge, the touchscreen, and the fact that it runs Honeycomb. The tablet, by itself is fairly thin and light. It is almost 13mm thin and it weighs roughly 24oz. Paired with the keyboard, it is twice as thick and heavy. If you are worried about size and weight, the Transformer and its keyboard dock will put this bad boy around the size and weight of a netbook.incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. Other than that, the design, look, and feel of this device is just plain sweet.

LED fueling Thermal Tech expansion

SANTA ROSA – Demand for its sapphire crystal growing tools has sent Thermal Technology LLC into overdrive.

The Santa Rosa maker of high-tech vacuum furnaces is taking on space and 55 new employees to deal with a spike in orders from Asia, according to Matt Mede, Thermal’s president and CEO.

The crystals are used in substrate wafers for high brightness blue and white LEDs (light-emitting diodes) found in traffic lights, backlit televisions and screen displays.

“China is very generously subsidizing the building of LED factories with the goal of being the world leader in the technology,” said Mr. Mede.

Taiwan and Korea are also investing heavily in LED production.

Thermal Technology, which added the crystal-growing systems to its line of high temperature vacuum furnaces within the last few years, has nine major Chinese customers,The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs, two in Taiwan and two in South Korea.

“We currently have 84 sapphire-growing systems on order from 13 customers, all of them from the Pacific Rim,The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs,” said Mr. Mede. “We expect to fill about 300 orders over a period of two years, starting to ship this summer. Our goal is to ship 100 systems by the end of this year and 200 in 2012.”

To do that, 70-employee Thermal has leased an additional 25,000 square feet near its facility on Airport Boulevard, and added 25 employees to its staff..

“We plan to add about 30 more,” said Mr. Mede, who has to go far afield to fill some of the engineering positions.

“Assembly workers are fairly easy to find, technicians a little more difficult. Engineers we’re trying to draw from all over the country,” he said.

Founded as Astro Industries in Santa Barbara in 1967, Thermal Technology was formed by a 1984 merger between Astro and another vacuum industry pioneer, Richard Brew & Co.These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device. in New Hampshire. The new company moved to Santa Rosa in 1988.

Fortune 500 companies and many smaller companies.

In 2007, owner George Johnson sold the company to Inteco Holdings US Inc., an LLC partnership between Mr. Mede and Dr. Harald Holzgruber, who owns a similar business in Austria.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Since the acquisition the partners have brought on several new technologies. In addition to the sapphire-growing tools, Thermal makes crystal growing equipment for windows in aircraft and spacecraft.

A third new product line involves spark plasma sintering, a very new technology with applications for both the aerospace and automotive industries.

Spark plasma sintering is a process of passing a DC current through a ceramic powder, creating an ultra-dense material without using an external heating source.

“The process shows clear benefits over conventional methods of materials densification,” said Mr. Mede.

According to Erica Corral, Ph.D and assistant professor at the University of Arizona who conducts research on ultra-high temperature ceramics and composites for use in hypersonic vehicles, Thermal Technology’s machine is especially advantageous.

“These highly bonded materials have to be heat treated to 2,000 degrees Celsius in order to be converted from a powder to a dense crystalline material system,” she said.

While conventional methods of materials processing require hours to reach and maintain peak temperature, Thermal Technology’s spark plasma sintering machine can conduct the whole run in minutes.

“Everything [in this field] is coming together right now,” said Ms.It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects. Corral. “We actually have the technology that we need to make some of these material systems – both the novel equipment to create the samples and the analytical equipment to probe and learn more about the microstructures. So a lot of need-based research dollars are being invested.”

Thermal Technology will have revenues of $60 million this year, four times last year, said Mr. Mede. During the past two years growth was slowed by the economy.

He expects the company’s LED segment will flatten out after 2013, when the equipment will be at over-capacity.

“After that LED growth depends a lot on what manufacturers like GE and Phillips are doing with light bulbs and how quickly they’re adopted. You can buy an LED bulb from Home Depot now for about $30. The industry wants that price to come down to $4.

“You see studies analyzing the number of sockets out there and the numbers are huge,” he said.

Meanwhile, he’s taken a multi-year lease on the new expansion space, which may or may not become permanent.

Preston Smith of Cornish & Carey Newmark Knight Frank arranged the lease.

“I moved Thermal Technology into their current address. They were lucky to find space so close when they needed to grow,” he said.

City of Winfield holding LED contest

City of Winfield holding LED contest

In an endeavor to go “green” and save energy the city has changed out eleven of their existing light bulbs with new energy-efficient LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs and would like to invite the public to participate in a contest to gain feedback.

The contest will run from May 23 to June 3 and is open to all Winfield Municipal electric utility customers. The first five people that correctly identify all eleven lights will receive a free Efficiency Kansas home energy audit worth $100.00.This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings. (Not to worry, the contest form will give you specific areas of the city in which to conduct your search!) So what's the story? Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique.

“LED lighting represents a significant energy-savings over our current outdoor lighting ranging from 65 percent to as much as 92 percent in some of the trial cases. Are LED Lights Coming to Your Home Soon?

Are LED Lights Coming to Your Home Soon?
In early 2009, we wanted to reduce energy consumption in our home. Conservation was an obvious piece but we were already doing as much as we could.

The most affordable option was to install efficient light bulbs.

Statistically, lighting can account for 10 to 20 percent of energy consumption in the home. An electrician friend reported costs savings as high as 25 percent per month with CFL’s.

At that time,Many people see through their car an easy and comfy way to lightsale go to work, to travel etc. We are talking about transportation and nothing more. Facilities such as a good stereo sound system, climate control and a coffee mug holder are just some things to make driving life easier and much more fun. Compact Florescent Lights (CFL’s) were hailed as the answer. However, they contain mercury. The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting, Breaking one means you have a small hazardous materials spill to deal with according to the EPA.

Not content, I did more research and learned that the most efficient light bulb was a Light Emitting Diode (LED).

LED’s are common. We see them on home electronics. Simple and efficient compared to incandescent bulbs, they contain no filament to break or wear out and waste little energy through heat loss.incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces.

Moreover, they are vastly superior to CFL’s. They contain no toxic mercury, turn on instantly, are not sensitive to cold and their rugged design makes them resistant to damage.

When it comes to energy use, LED’s are by far the best. While a CFL may use only 25 percent of what an incandescent bulb needs to produce the same amount of light, the LED uses only 2 to 4 percent in the same comparison.

Unfortunately LED’s are very expensive.

In 2009, LED bulbs cost $50-$90. In contrast, CFL’s were around $5. This was still higher than incandescent bulbs, which costs only $3.99 for a six pack.

After doing an inventory of the bulbs in my home, it became clear I could not afford to convert to LED’s. So, for around $100 I changed all my incandescent bulbs to CFL’s.

After some very careful handling of the new bulbs, I waited for the results.

I did see my PG&E bill drop 10-15%. While CFL’s are touted to last longer, I found this not to be the case having replaced 5 CFL’s out of 30 installed in just two years.

Two years later,This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings. I am still intrigued with LED’s. They are becoming more prevalent. From the tail lights in newer cars to emergency vehicle light bars, to TV screens, we are seeing more of them. These were some reasons why people are keen to use these lights, hope that they will be used brightstal in a similar way in future as well.

This past fall, the City of Clayton replaced 150 street light standards with LED lighting along Oakhurst Drive and Clayton Road at a cost of $2000 each. This cost was off-set by a US Department of Energy grant of $62,000 and PG&E rebates.

According to Laura Hoffmeister, assistant to the City Manager, the city has not been through enough billing cycles to determine if any savings have been realized from the new LED’s. In addition, the city’s lights are not metered but are billed on a new rate schedule established by PG&E after the installation. Therefore, obtaining quantifiable data on energy savings isn't easily determined.

At the retail level, there are few LED bulbs available. Ochard Supply Hardware in the Clayton Valley Shopping Center has a small selection of decorative low watt bulbs ranging from $15 to $30. Online retailer list higher output bulbs for $35 to $50 each.

An $18 LED Bulb That Lasts 5 Years?

An $18 LED Bulb That Lasts 5 Years?
Managing Editor Amanda Wills received a sample of the new A19 Pixi LED bulb in April 2011. The product was provided by Pixi Lighting free of charge. This is her review.

With the impending federal phaseout of incandescent light bulbs, consumers – myself included – will have to find alternative lighting options to replace their 60-watt ways in 2012.incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces.

Not to be confused with the love-it-or-leave-it CFL bulb, the Pixi bulb is a LED (light-emitting diode).Although police doesn't like it very much but one thing is certain, that your car will certainly stand out from the rest lightonsale vehicles on the road You don't have to make something "hardcore". While these types of bulbs come with a considerably higher price tag, they save a monster amount of energy. In fact, if every American switched to Energy Star LEDs, it would save 700 million kWh of electricity each year, equivalent to taking 100,000 cars off the road. This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings.

I have received reader complaints in the past about LED bulbs,The particular ramifications of this saler4ds are usually astounding; in 3 years we should expect to view wholesale LED bulbs which have been 40 instances more efficient. mostly concerning their upfront cost, which can sometimes reach $50 per bulb. Readers have also noted that LEDs aren’t dimmable, and the bluish-gray light they cast is off-putting.

The Pixi bulb addresses all three of those issues.

I replaced my desk lamp’s 60-watt incandescent light bulb with the A19 40-watt equivalent. The first thing I noticed is that my office space was considerably cooler after two hours of lighting time.

My former 60-watt GE incandescent had a light output of 820 lumens, and the Pixi only measures in at 463 lumens. Despite the lower lumen, I didn’t notice a decrease in lighting. This is because of Pixi’s shape. Its body is made of aluminum stamped heat sink fins that allow downward light to pass through. This type of design is also found in gaming consoles and notebook microprocessors. [Editor's Note: The original post said the 40-watt Pixi bulb had an output of 300 lumens. That was updated to the correct output of 463 lumens at 5:40 p.m. EST on May 10, 2011.]

The No. 1 most appealing thing about it is its price – $17.99 for a 40-watt equivalent (used in this review), $9.99 for a 25-watt.

While that’s more than I spent on my incandescent, consider that the lifespan of the Pixi bulb is 50,000 hours, compared to just 1,500 hours for the incandescent. That’s almost 34 incandescent bulbs for one LED. Eighteen bucks for the Pixi bulb,The most important step is hiring the right LED lighting experts to help with besttube the retrofit process. or $66 for a pile of incandescents? The math made my decision for me.

But the Pixi is missing one crucial thing – a recycling option. The body of the bulb is made from 99.7 percent pure aluminum, a high-value recoverable material. The rest of the bulb’s components will no doubt require disassembly, and Pixi doesn’t yet have a solution for that.

According to Pixi Vice President Rey Roque, the company hasn’t started a program because there isn’t yet a need due to its long life. Will Pixi resolve that issue by the time my bulb burns out? Check back in 2,083 days.
