Reaching Sustainability

Reaching Sustainability
In an effort to reduce her carbon footprint, Lansing resident Kiirsten Olson uses worm composting bins to efficiently dispose of her garbage.

Wanting to better the process and learn what she might not have been doing properly, Olson attended a worm composting workshop Tuesday at Michigan Energy Options, 405 Grove St., a nonprofit organization focused on helping people live more energy efficiently.

At the workshop, outreach and education manager Becky Jo Farrington and programs assistant Marissa Stern educated people about the process of red worms serving as decomposers and taught the group how to make a composting bin.

Like Olson, many people who attend the workshops — held at various times during the year — already have composting bins, but they want to confirm the best and most efficient method of composting.

“I have done worm composting already, and I do a lot of worm composting because I want to reduce my footprint and make sure I have as little trash as possible,” Olson said. “I think there’s no sense in sending it to a landfill if I can take care of it myself.Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs.”

With many local and statewide programs — especially with an additional office in Marquette, Mich. — Michigan Energy Options, or MEO, is driven toward education and providing assistance to those who want to live more efficient lives.

In addition to the composting workshop, MEO reaches out to children. Working with the city of Lansing, the nonprofit goes to elementary schools and teaches children how to build composting bins.

“It gets kids excited about recycling garbage,The U600 works with Sprint's SmartView マジコン connection manager for Windows XP and above, and for Macs running OSX 10.5 and above.” said Stern, a recent MSU graduate. “They already know how to recycle, reuse and reduce — that they get taught when they’re very young, … and it has an impact on them when they go home as well.”

Reaching out
Started in East Lansing 33 years ago, the goal of MEO — previously known as Urban Options — is to share the benefits of energy efficiency,In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly renewable energy and sustainability and provide people with the means to implement necessary changes in their lives, executive director Dr.However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. John A. Kinch said.

“If people begin to see the benefits of conserving energy both to their wallets and also the larger benefits to society, such as reducing climate change, they’re going to buy into it and become more of a lifelong practitioner of energy efficiency,” Kinch said.

Working with Lansing Board of Water and Light, a current MEO program is working with households struggling to pay utility bills. The free program helps people change their behavior — at little to no cost to their homes — to lower their utility bills.

Another program, in cooperation with the city of Lansing, is the energy fitness program for low-income homeowners or renters who live within the city limits.

Also a free program, Lansing has provided funding since 1989 for MEO to do home energy audits to identify areas where people could be more energy efficient and provide them with the tools to make the changes and save money.

“It’s an educational experience because we go in there and teach people how to (make energy changes) themselves as well as provide $100-worth weatherization kits they can use,” Stern said.

For people who do not qualify for the free audits, MEO still provides inexpensive audits for different income levels.

Although Lansing subsidizes MEO’s efforts, the city of East Lansing has not provided funding in more than 30 years,Although this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED sales Farrington said.

Because of this, MEO provides the same services but for a fee to East Lansing residents, such as MSU alumnus Michael Belligan.

Following the audit through Belligan’s house, MEO provided him with a weatherization kit and demonstrations for how to apply the tools that were not self-explanatory. Since his audit in December 2010, he said he’s seen improvements with his utility bills.

“The most beneficial thing was they came through with the thermal camera and showed us parts of the house where there might be missing insulation or where we could use more,” Belligan said.

AMP members - Incentives offered for energy-saving lights

AMP members - Incentives offered for energy-saving lights
Residents in several area towns are being offered incentives to purchase compact fluorescent lights through a program set up to help consumers save on their electric bills.

Coupons offering discounts on the CFLs are being mailed to residents in the villages of Elmore, Pemberville, Oak Harbor, Genoa, Woodville, Bradner, Haskins, and the City of Bowling Green.

The towns are members of American Municipal Power, a non-profit organization that provides electrical power for municipalities. An AMP program called Efficiency Smart offers services for members to lower their power bills by installing energy efficient equipment and systems.

The coupons can be redeemed for discounts - as much as 85 percent of the retail price – at stores that carry General Electric lighting products.

“In many homes, lighting represents 20-30 percent of the home’s energy use,” said Dave Hower, a member of the Elmore Board of Public Affairs. In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly “The quality of CFLs has greatly improved over the past several years,That 3G test in Grand Central further confirmed these results. Reception r4 販売 was low on both modems, but the U600 manage to squeak past the 250U and the product can be used in many applications, including outdoors, flood lights, recessed cans, and dimmable lighting locations.”

The coupons offer a discount value of $15 for at least seven CFLs. A list of stores accepting the coupons is posted on the website: efficiencysmart.org.

The offer expires Sept. 30.

Jackson Hale, retail efficient products market manager for Efficiency Smart, said the goal of the incentive is to get consumers to try CFLs during the summer. If residents are receptive, the program may be continued in the fall.Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs.

Concerns over mercury in the lights are “overblown” he said, adding it’s a trace amount.

“Certainly someone should handle a broken light with care when cleaning up,” Hale said. “ General Electric is getting the amount of mercury down to 1 milligram.”

He said the environment faces a larger danger from mercury spewed by coal-burning power plants.

“The less coal we can burn the better,” he said. However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage.

Efficiency Smart is offering several residential incentives, including recycling secondary refrigerators and freezers. Qualifying residents receive $35 and free pick-up of their appliances.

“We’re trying to help people take electrical items off the grid and let them know they can live without that extra refrigerator or freezer, We know we’re not going to get the deer hunter who stores meat, but the others may want to.”

The refrigerator program has been going well in the Bowling Green area, he said.Although this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED sales

In all, 48 communities are participating in Efficiency Smart.

The services offered by Efficiency Smart began in January and will continue through December 2013, according to terms of a contract between AMP and the Vermont Energy Investment Corp.

LED Lighting vs. Induction Lighting

LED Lighting vs. Induction Lighting
In a recently published article, a local Lansing bedroom community/city stated it receives a monthly light bill of $9,400 to light 550 streetlights. The yearly bill adds up to approximately $112,000. Most of those high energy consumption lights are mercury vapor, high pressure sodium vapor and metal halide.

In most communities and businesses, efforts are being made to reduce lighting bills by upgrading to energy-efficient lamps, such as LED lighting or induction lighting. The FTP and Web tests were r4購入 also close, but the U600 achieved slightly faster FTP download speeds. Most importantly, when I compared head-to-head results in individual test rounds, In order to determine what type of lighting should be considered, it is necessary to have some basic facts on the difference between LED lighting and induction lighting. Manufacturers of both LED and induction lamps claim to reduce energy costs by 50 percent. Manufacturers of both LED and induction lamps claim a 100K hour life span; however, the actual life span for both lamps is more like 60 to 70K hours. Both lights work well in cold weather.

Induction lighting produces a crisp white light, provides long life and has a good color rendition. Induction lighting is known for producing a floodlight type of pattern,However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. which works well in gas stations with a canopy. Induction lighting is commonly used for street lighting, bridges and tunnels. Induction lighting works very well with security camera systems. In addition, there are very few maintenance issues with induction lighting. Induction lighting utilizes a mature technology and with no forecasted upgrades.

LED is a light-emitting diode. LEDs for street lighting are becoming very popular for local communities. LED lighting can be aimed to where it is needed, which is ideal for security situations. LED fixtures are becoming frequently used for low-level street lighting and do not have the power to act as high-mast lighting. LED lighting is known to depreciate or fade more frequently than induction lighting. LED fixtures are known to generate excessive amounts of heat causing heat degradation of the lamp. Nonetheless, developing LED technology is continuing to improve and resolve noted shortcomings.

Dan Shimkos, a local Lansing-area lighting consultant, recommends both LED and induction lighting for various clients, noting that each light has its appropriate application. He does say that when it comes to retrofitting lamps to either LED or induction lighting, there is a major cost difference where the cost ratio for LED lighting to induction lighting is 4:1. In essence, retrofitting a fixture with an induction lamp may cost $250,Although this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED sales while a comparable LED lamp retrofit will cost a million dollars.

The best way to determine which type of lighting your business or community needs is to contact a licensed electrical contractor or qualified lighting consultant to prepare a cost analysis, area lighting analysis, projected maintenance matters as well as technology issues. In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly It is important that lighting recommendations be code compliant and consistent with industry standards.

Finally, visit sites that use LED and induction lighting. Compare the lighting to see if it will fit your lighting needs. Make inquiries as to maintenance issues, and last but not least, ask if there has been a cost savings.

Making the appropriate inquiries, seeking the necessary lighting requirements, and obtaining projected cost factors will help you make an informed decision in determining which type of lighting best fits your needs.Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs.

Fifth and Walnut parking garage lighting changes

Fifth and Walnut parking garage lighting changes
Questions from the Environment and Energy Commission have spurred changes to the Fifth and Walnut parking garage's lighting.

The city is gathering cost estimates for three options aimed at reducing the brightness and electricity use of the garage's 471 LED light fixtures, said David Ryan, director of operations for the architectural firm Walker Parking Consultants.
The options are:

* Lowering the output of the fixtures: Dimming the lights when possible is the only one of the city's options that would simultaneously reduce the lights' brightness and the amount of electricity used. The lighting manufacturer, BetaLED, has developed a way for the light's output to be lowered,It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing. Ryan said.
* Shielding the fixtures: This plan would involve using dark shields to prevent light from spilling out of the garage. Shields would be added to lights on the top level of the garage.
* Tilting the fixtures: On covered levels of the garage, the light fixtures would be tilted to better prevent light spill. This could happen in addition to or in lieu of reducing the lights' output, Ryan said.Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs.

There are also plans to install photo sensors in the garage's stair wells, which would allow the lights within to turn off during the daytime. Another option for reducing lighting in the garage's stair tower is disabling one of its lights.Philips LED business is inside of Philips lighting so it Led light is more difficult to determine whether they are meeting expectations.

Environment and Energy Commission member Karl Skala said the city still needs to determine which of these options will work. However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. Each of the options will be tested on half of a garage level.

"They're going to try a section,In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly sort of a pilot, to see how these work and see if we can generalize it to the whole structure," Skala said.

Ryan said the test installations would happen a month from now at the earliest. The city is waiting on time and price estimates for the changes, which he solicited last week.

One or more of the changes will most likely become permanent, depending on the estimated price and effectiveness of the test changes.

"My understanding is that it's pretty much going to happen," Ryan said.

The Environment and Energy Commission sought more information about the lights at the end of May after its members expressed concern that the garage was over-lit. The city received about 20 complaints on the amount of ambient light from the garage before the commission's April meeting.

"I think everyone is curious to see how these changes will impact the perception of the light level," Ryan said.

Best of Sleep Medicine 2011" Textbook Includes Rensselaer Lighting

"Best of Sleep Medicine 2011" Textbook Includes Rensselaer Lighting Research Center Field Study Results on Impact of Light on Teens? Sleeping Habits
Research led by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Associate Professor Mariana Figueiro on the impact of light on teenagers’ sleeping habits was selected for publication in Best of Sleep Medicine 2011. The textbook is designed to keep sleep clinicians, researchers, and technologists informed of the latest science and technology advances in the growing field of sleep medicine.

According to Editor Dr. Teofilo Lee-Chiong of National Jewish Health, Best of Sleep Medicine 2011 covers the entire spectrum of adult and pediatric sleep sciences and is designed to represent some of the finest scientific literature on sleep medicine published in 2010. The articles are selected from among thousands of journal articles in medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and surgery periodicals. The book contains concise summaries of the notable works accompanied by commentaries written by major international authorities on sleep medicine.

Figueiro, Light and Health Program director at the Rensselaer Lighting Research Center (LRC), led a series of field studies examining the impact of light on teenagers’ sleeping habits. The paper selected for publication in Best of Sleep Medicine 2011 details results from one of those studies where the LRC research team found that 11 8th grade students who wore special glasses to prevent short-wavelength (blue) morning light from reaching their eyes experienced a 30-minute delay in the onset of melatonin, the hormone that indicates to the body when it’s nighttime,However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. according to Figueiro. The human circadian system is maximally sensitive to blue light, therefore removal of morning blue light can reduce synchronization of the sleep/wake cycle to the 24-hour solar day.

The details of the study were summarized in the paper “Lack of short-wavelength light during the school day delays dim light melatonin onset (DLMO) in middle school students,” by Figueiro and LRC Director Mark Rea, and published by the journal Neuroendocrinology Letters 2010: 31 (1).

The series of field studies examined not only the impact of removing morning blue light, but also the seasonal impact and the increased evening light exposure during the spring months on teens’ melatonin onset and sleep times.

“The field studies supported the research team’s general hypothesis that the entire 24-hour pattern of light/dark exposure influences synchronization of the body’s circadian clock with the solar day and thus influences teenagers’ sleep/wake cycles,” said Figueiro. “As a general rule, teenagers should increase morning daylight exposure year round and decrease evening daylight exposure in the spring to help ensure they will get sufficient sleep before going to school. In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly”

In the series of studies, each subject wore a Daysimeter, a small, head-mounted device developed by the LRC to measure an individual’s exposure to daily “circadian light,” as well as rest and activity patterns. The definition of circadian light is based upon the potential for light to suppress melatonin synthesis at night, as opposed to measuring light in terms of how it stimulates the visual system.Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs.

Buffalo Common Council Report

Buffalo Common Council Report
The Council adopted a Resolution sponsored by Council Member Michael J. LoCurto requesting that the City Law Department provide the Council with a written opinion concerning the process and timeline that would need to be followed to reduce the total number of Council Districts to eight (8) and to return the position of President of the Council to an elected at-large, citywide four (4) year term of office. Currently, the Council is comprised of nine (9) council districts, each represented by a District Council Member who is elected to a four (4) year term of office by the district’s voters.

During the Council’s Biennial Reorganization Meeting, the Members choose from within their ranks, a President, who serves for a two (2) year term of office. This process would continue pending any legislative change by the Council that would also require citywide voter approval through a referendum. If passed at referendum, the changes could take effect during the 2015 City of Buffalo election cycle for elected terms of office beginning on January 1, 2016.

BI-ANNUAL MEETINGS OF CITY OF BUFFALO DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES WITH THE COMMON COUNCIL

The Council adopted a resolution sponsored by Ellicott District Council Member Darius G. Pridgen requesting that all City of Buffalo departments and agencies appear before the Council on a bi-annual basis to discuss any pertinent changes, issues, and updates to their respective departments or agencies.Philips LED business is inside of Philips lighting so it Led light is more difficult to determine whether they are meeting expectations. The City of Buffalo is comprised of numerous departments and agencies that are responsible for the daily operations of the City. The Council, as the legislative branch of the City of Buffalo, has a duty to oversee these departments and protect the interests of City residents and business owners.

The Council maintains that in order to create a more efficient and transparent government for the City, it would be beneficial for City departments and agencies to meet with the Council twice during the year specifically to discuss key changes in the department or agency’s structure, the department’s duties and responsibilities, key personnel whom Council Members should be familiar with, challenges and opportunities currently facing the department or agency, and any other important information that Council Members should be aware of.

FIGHTING GRAFFITI IN THE CITY OF BUFFALO

The Council adopted a resolution sponsored by Delaware District Council Member Michael J. LoCurto and co-sponsored by South District Council Member Michael P. Kearns banning the sale to minors, any items that could be used to vandalize public or private property, including aerosol spray paint cans, broad-tipped markers and etching acids. The vandalism at Delaware Park on May 21, 2011 left the park in need of thousands of dollars worth of repairs.

Graffiti is the most common type of property vandalism and accounts for approximately 35 percent of all property vandalism according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Graffiti decreases the quality of life in a neighborhood and can make more obvious, the presence of gangs and crime. Graffiti decreases property values,However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. frightens away businesses from neighborhoods, and often invites more crime into an area. Recently, anti-graffiti legislation has been passed in cities such as New York City, Toronto and Niagara Falls, NY.

The Council maintains that severe punishment must be dealt to those who vandalize or destroy property with graffiti. The resolution calls for parents of minor children caught making graffiti or in possession of graffiti instruments, to be required to pay a fine of up to $250 and the costs associated with restitution payments to either the City or to the private property owners involved.

CITY OF BUFFALO POLICY REGARDING LED SIGNAGE

The Council adopted a resolution sponsored by North District Council Member Joseph Golombek,In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly Jr. requesting the City of Buffalo’s Executive Director of the Office of Strategic Planning, the Acting Corporation Counsel,Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs. and the Commissioners of the Departments of Public Works (“DPW”) and Permits and Inspection Services, to work together to conduct a thorough review of the advantages and disadvantages of allowing Light Emitting Diode (“LED”) signage in the City.

In 2007, the Council requested DPW to study the feasibility of changing the City’s current lighting technology to LED bulbs, which are typically brighter, have a longer useful life, consume less energy,The U600 works with Sprint's SmartView マジコン connection manager for Windows XP and above, and for Macs running OSX 10.5 and above. and are more cost efficient than traditional bulbs. For these reasons, businesses and commercial enterprises have increasingly looked to replace their traditional bulbs and lit signage with LED bulbs and signage. Although LED bulbs offers a number of advantages, the use of LED lighting in signage also has potential drawbacks including; distracting or blinding drivers, negatively impacting the quality of life in surrounding neighborhoods, and light pollution.

The Council maintains that a comprehensive review of the City of Buffalo’s laws, policies and procedures regarding use of LED signage is warranted at this time. The Council resolution also requested that the cited City Departments provide to the Council, suggestions for updating and strengthening where needed, the City’s laws, policies and procedures relating to the use of LED bulbs and signage.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has already come out with specifications for LED lights and the government has created a testing facility at Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) to examine LED lights to the star rating.

Power to the People

Power to the People
At her home on Sixth Avenue in Park Slope, Tracy Fitz collects rainwater from the roof in huge rubber barrels as two small cats laze in the shade. The water is collected through a sophisticated system made from a modified drainpipe, which she'll use to water the plants in the yard, which include grapes, basil and budding kiwifruit.

Just down the street at 6/15 Green, a community garden at Sixth Avenue and 15th street, a pile of compost ripens in the sun, and a waterfall empties into a small goldfish pond. Two large, majestic solar panels almost smack in the middle of the garden glint in the sunlight.

Both Fitz's home and 6/15 Green are part of a more ecologically sustainable, environmentally friendly way of life which, Fitz hopes, she can guide Brooklynites towards adopting for themselves, through education and resources provided by CitySolar.

CitySolar is actually Fitz, who has been teaching and consulting since 1994. The earliest incarnation of CitySolar was formed at Manhattan's famously gritty East Village, where Fitz was a member of the 6BC Botanical Garden, and where "guerrilla" gardening first took root.

Since then, she's been educating and consulting independently, at her home and at 6/15 Green, to help New Yorkers integrate green energy into public and private spaces, giving workshops and acting as a consultant to those attempting to convert to solar power, "hopefully someday reducing our footprint to zero," she said.

She also acts as a private consultant, working with installers to help those looking to convert their homes transition more easily and cost-effectively.

"When people want something done they can call me up and I can connect them with the right thing," she said.

Fitz also helped design the Solar Arbor and the solar powered "Godzilla's Place" Ponds and Falls at 6/15 Green, where she implemented solar power in 2001 as a memorial for deceased garden member Kathleen Usadi. Currently,The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting. Fitz is working with grants from ConEd and IOBY to install an equipment box, additional solar panels, and a "green roof" to cover the panels.

6/15 is, of course, open to the public through membership, and accepts donations via a charming, handpainted "Solar Donations" box. Through "peaceful cooperation," Fitz's goal through the solar program at 6/15 Green is to offer "a place to learn and care for ourselves and the others including fish, plants, birds, worms, water, soil,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. air, and grow in our appreciation for the sun."

In an upcoming, all-day hands-on workshop, Fitz will instruct a group how to assemble a 60-watt, 12-volt solar electric panel using solar cells, wire, solder, aluminum, glass and silicon.

Fitz's own home is a model for progress. Aside from utilizing solar power where possible, and in some cases installing fixtures that operate "off the grid" —for example, a solar powered LED ceiling fixture controlled by an AC/DC switch —every crack is sealed, every empty wall or ceiling space is insulated. All the walls and ceilings are painted white, which she says reduces her need for indoor artificial light during the day.I transferred files over FTP, downloaded Web pages ds マジコン using curl, and ran the speed tester at speedtest.net.

Skylights also reduce the need for electric lighting, trash is composted, and non-potable rainwater collected from the roof is used for gardening.

Converting exclusively to green energy is, of course, not a viable option for most New Yorkers, who rent, rather than own, their own homes, and may not have the money, the means, or the permission to convert their spaces.

For this, Fitz offers up practical advice for the rest of us: "seal all leaks in your home, even cracks around electrical outlets, with caulk, to keep warm or cool air in, use fluorescent lighting insThe settlement resolves the commonwealth's claims fluorescent lights that EarthTronics Inc., which sells mercury-containing compact fluorescent light bulbstead of standard lightbulbs, and unplug appliances that use 'phantom power' when not in use," she advised.

She suggests converting to a high-efficiency toilet if possible, but if not, meet the environment halfway by simply following the old adage, "if it's yellow,In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.  let it mellow," and common-sense methods such as always making sure lights are turned off when leaving a room.

Battle for a barrier in lacey

Battle for a barrier in lacey
Kim Benscoter is still haunted by the night her 16-year-old son was killed last December.

Standing near a dirt patch at the corner of 45th Avenue Southeast and Ruddell Road where her now-demolished mobile home once stood, Benscoter recalled hearing the vehicle speed through the intersection before slamming into the house, killing Austin Blankenship while he texted friends in his bedroom.

“It devastated our whole family,” she said last week. “He’s our glue.”

Much of the family’s anger is focused on Bobby Glenn Hicks, who is awaiting trial on charges of vehicular homicide and hit-and-run resulting in death.

But some of that anger is directed at the City of Lacey for not doing more to make the intersection safe, something the family,It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing. the mobile home park management and one City Council member think should be done.

“Nothing is going to bring him back … but I don’t want his death to be in vain,” she said.

Benscoter said the city should install a barrier at the intersection on Ruddell Road, restricting left-hand turns and preventing a vehicle from running through the intersection and crashing into the mobile home park.

City officials say the intersection, which handles about 20,000 vehicles daily, is no more dangerous than others in the city and that the changes proposed by the family could be dangerous for drivers and force traffic through places where children play. After Blankenship’s death, city crews installed LED lights around the stop sign at 45th Avenue. The city also has plans to reduce the speed limit on the section of Ruddell and narrow the roadway next year.

Benscoter, who since her son’s death moved with her husband to her sister’s home in Olympia, doesn’t think that’s enough and said she won’t have complete closure until a barrier is installed.

“Instead of focusing on the negatives, we’re going to take this tragedy and make sure it doesn’t happen again,” she said. “They (Lacey) need to do something soon.”

Placing a barrier on Ruddell was discussed during meetings of the city’s transportation committee but is not in the city’s plans, said Scott Egger, public works director. He said a barrier would restrict left-hand turns, meaning more congestion and higher traffic levels at Rainier Vista Park and on neighborhood streets.

“In terms of roadway design, we cannot design for negligent drivers,” Egger said. “You could have a fully signalized intersection and that’s not going to prevent someone blowing that intersection.”

The intersection itself has no design issues and is no more dangerous than similar spots in the city,Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs. he said.

From 2008 through 2010, there were 22 wrecks at the intersection, 13 of which caused injuries and another Blankenship’s death, according to crash data provided by the city.

City Manager Greg Cuoio said that the opening of the Mullen Road extension has helped take the traffic load off 45th Avenue.

Family members and Councilman Ron Lawson contend that drivers could use the new Mullen Road extension as a detour.

The barrier also has the support of Don Shoemaker, who has been the general manager of the Crestwood Mobile Home Park since 1992 and seen accidents and speeding at the intersection. In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly

After Blankenship’s death, he gathered a petition from his tenants agreeing to make the exit from the mobile home park right turn only.

He said reduced speed limits and a lighted stop sign won’t keep the mobile home residents safe. However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage.

“Something’s got to be done there,” he said. “How about when some idiot that comes down 45th and blasts someone and kills them? That’s the point they’re (the city’s) not getting.”

And since a barrier isn’t in the city’s plans, the owners of the mobile home park plan to install concrete walls on both corners of the mobile home park. Shoemaker said the entire project will cost about $40,000 and include 30 feet of reinforced concrete with wood fencing on top.

Cuoio said he’s confident the city’s plan coupled with the mobile home park installing the concrete wall will improve safety.

A majority of the council members who sit on the traffic committee oppose a barrier solution.

Since the Mullen Road extension opened, traffic volumes and speed been have reduced on 45th Avenue and there are legitimate safety concerns of traffic diverting through Rainier Vista Park, said Jason Hearn, who chairs the committee.

“We take it seriously. We just have to consider the cause and effect of everything we change,” said Hearn.

But not everyone on the committee thinks a barrier is a bad idea.

Councilmember Lawson said he’s on board with the family and other mobile park residents who favor a barrier.

“We can’t afford to be killing people this way,” he said. “It’s damn foolish.Philips LED business is inside of Philips lighting so it Led light is more difficult to determine whether they are meeting expectations.”

Benscoter and her husband, Terry, are trying to live a “new normal.” They are looking to buy a new home in Lacey, but it won’t be anywhere near a major street.

The House will vote to bring back the bulb

The House will vote to bring back the bulb
House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich., has finally agreed to support a bill this summer that means lights out on the looming 2012 ban on the common light bulb. Upton himself co-sponsored 2007 legislation making light bulbs illegal, a ban that has become a symbol of bipartisan Big Government run amok.

Upton has come under increased pressure in recent weeks, sources say, after failing to follow up on a promise he made after assuming the committee chairmanship that he would hold hearings on reversing the ban. After months of paralysis - and with the ban just six months from going into effect on January 1 - outrage was building among his own Republican committee colleagues and conservative activists, including a national petition campaign, FreeOurLight.org, sponsored by the influential Competitive Enterprise Institute.

"Freedom Action's Free Our Light campaign has demonstrated that there is widespread public opposition to the light bulb ban," says Myron Ebell, Director of Freedom Action at CEI. "We're pleased that Chairman Upton has seen the light and congratulate him on his decision. We look forward to the House passing the bill to repeal the ban and its eventual enactment later this year."

They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly anger boiled over and the chairman agreed not only to cancel the hearings but to bring up a bill repealing the ban. The View's source says that the bill will likely be brought up under "suspension,While SmartView has been slow DSTT and unstable in the past, it seems to have improved greatly with recent updates." which means no amendments will be allowed and passage requires a two-thirds majority.

E&E News reporter Katie Howell is also reporting that Upton "he is working with Texas Republicans Joe Barton and Mike Burgess on language repealing the light bulb standards.Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs." (Link here, subscription required.)

"We're very close to seeing an agreement emerge and happen," Upton told reporters at a conservative blogger briefing hosted by the Heritage Foundation.

In keeping with Washington's stealth energy policies on auto mpg and greenhouse emissions, Upton's original 2007 bill - touted by then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Bush - was not an outright repeal but a backdoor sneak play in the larger 2007 energy law that would have eventually phased out bulbs that use more than 40 watts.

This would have effectively banned Edison's invention which is the choice of 85 percent of American bulb purchases.

The ban has been mostly covered up by the green mainstream media, and consumers were only just learning of the ban as bulbs have begun disappearing from shelves. In the meantime, bulb manufacturers had already eliminated hundreds of incandescent plants in the United States (the last plant closed in Winchester, Va. last year) in preparation for the ban - off-shoring the jobs to China where the more expensive, replacement compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) could be manufactured.

So much for green creating American jobs.

Republicans - led by Texas Rep. Joe Barton together with fellow Texan Michael Burgess and Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. - introduced bulb restoration legislation immediately upon the GOP taking over the House this year. Republicans overwhelmingly support bringing back the bulb, while global-warming-obsessed Democrats say making bulbs illegal is crucial to saving the planet. Ironically, saving the earth has meant destroying union plant jobs.

In contrast, the ban had been supported by big corporations like General Electric and Philips who saw a an opportunity to use government to monopolize a new, more expensive market while transferring jobs to China to earn higher margins.

"Nobody has to buy a CFL, and that's a common misconception," said Randy Moorhead,Philips LED business is inside of Philips lighting so it Led light is more difficult to determine whether they are meeting expectations. vice president of government affairs for Philips, this spring. "This is a political controversy that's undeserved." The Philips rep's' slippery answer refers to even more expensive options than CFLs and ignored the fact that the banned incandescent is the cheap and overwhelming favorite of consumers.

GE, partners to invest $63 million in green techGeneral Electric

GE, partners to invest $63 million in green techGeneral Electric Co and its venture capital partners will invest a further $63 million in 10 clean-energy start-up ventures, the largest U.S. conglomerate said on Thursday.

The investments, in areas such as solar thermal systems and LED lighting, are part of GE's ongoing "ecomagination challenge," a program that reviews thousands of start-ups' business plans for possible funding. Much of the technology is focused on reducing energy use in the home, or on better communication between energy users and utilities.

The investments are aimed at helping innovative technology reach a commercial stage earlier. To that end, GE will partner with the world's largest consumer electronics chain, Best Buy Co Inc, the companies said.

"We're going to fast-track them from the idea stage to store shelves," said Beth Comstock, GE's chief marketing officer.

Energy-reducing products, such as a home energy control device and a solar air conditioning control system, will be available at Best Buy stores in 2012. A GE product to monitor home electricity use, "Nucleus," will be sold later this year.

True blue light emission could make OLED displays the next big thing in consumer electronics

True blue light emission could make OLED displays the next big thing in consumer electronics
(Nanowerk News) Researchers from IMRE, a research institute of Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), and the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), US have proven that the efficiency of fluorescent blue OLED devices can reach 9.4%, trumping the current theoretical limit for OLED external quantum efficiency (EQE)[1] by nearly two-fold. The researchers discovered that by changing the thickness of the light emitting layer and optimising the concentration of light emitting material in the same layer they could double the OLED efficiency from the current maximum 5% EQE.
The achievement allows manufacturers of full colour OLED displays to use the new fluorescent materiaThese are also used as art light as well, it is because crystal these lights did not emit any harmful rays and the bluish color of LED lights makes a painting look very different from others and makes them attractive for the viewers.ls to make devices that have significantly longer lifetime, consume less power and more importantly, can emit pure, and brighter blue light that will give more life-like colours to OLED displays compared to liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and light emitting diode displays (LEDs). The material is also solution-processable making it easy to manufacture and cost-effective.These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device. This could greatly enhance the attractiveness of OLED displays in the consumer market.
deep blue organic light emitting diode (OLED)
The new material was used to produce this deep blue organic light emitting diode (OLED) that is driven at 6V.
"One of the reasons why current OLED displays are not as popular as LCD and LED displays is that the blue emitters have short lifetime and poor colour quality," said Dr Chen Zhikuan, an IMRE Senior Scientist and one of the principal researchers behind the fluorescent OLED development. "With our breakthrough, OLED TVs could well be the next wave in consumer displays and may soon appear in your homes." Blue light emitters are also used in a wide array of other devices such as TVs and monitors as well as in LED lighting.
Current OLED displays are either phosphorescent or fluorescent materials displays. Though phosphorescent OLEDs have efficiencies that reach 11%, they are less stable, have shorter lifetimes and produce poor colour quality with their light blue colour emissions. Blue light has a wider band gap that requires higher energy for effective blue light emission, and inherently has lower efficiency and a shorter lifeAlthough police doesn't like it very much but one thing is certain, that your car will certainly stand out from the rest lightonsale vehicles on the road You don't have to make something "hardcore".time. Access Fixtures Launches eHID Luminaire Product Line

Access Fixtures Launches eHID Luminaire Product Line
Access Fixtures is excited to announce the addition of Light Fixtures that feature Metrolight eHID electronic ballasts to its product offering. Electronic HID ballast technology is a cost-cutting innovation that is shaking up the lighting industry by providing significant energy savings compared to standard magnetic HID ballasts. Electronic HID ballasts allow precise control of light output while using less electricity which enables a reduction in lumen depreciation and energy consumption, in addition to savings achieved through lowered maintenance costs. The design of the ballast combines all the best elements of traditional HID systems integrated into a single, compact unit with improved ignition technology that simplifies improves the lifespan of the lamp and ballast. While fixtures equipped with eHID ballasts and approved lamps may cost more initially, customers will save significantly with reduced energy and lower maintenance as well. This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings.

“The payback on these luminaires comes in the form of reduced energy consumption, as well as reduced maintenance costs. Whether the application is new construction or replacing existing luminaries, eHID is the way to go” said Access Fixtures Brand Manager Marc Nehdi. “We’re excited to help our customers substantially cut their energy costs, in some cases up to 65%.”

When paired in luminaires with Metrolight-approved lamps, the potential savings are significant. Replacing lighting with eHID technology will typically provide over a 50% reduction in energy consumption without sacrificing lumen output or color quality. These light fixtures can replace traditional metal halide fixtures between 100 and 1000 watts with remarkable results. For example, a 1000w metal halide fixture can be replaced with a 450w eHID light fixture and provide as much light and longer life, along with all of the additional savings associated with the conversion.

By providing a substantial reduction in energy consumption, improved lumen maintenance, precise dimming capabilities, and improved efficiency over magnetic HID ballasts, Metrolight-powered eHID fixtures are ideal for virtually any HID application. The dimming capabilities of these ballasts extend lamp life and dramatically reduce the frequency of lamp replacement, lowering maintenance costs throughout the life cycle of the lamp and ballast. Electronic HID ballasts can be connected to a number of standard control devices including analog and digital dimmers, sensors, and timers. This allows for dimming that can be controlled to accommodate human activity, daylight harvesting, and interactive light systems, all of which provide significant additional energy savings. Additionally, eHID technology will likely qualify your facility for rebates from your local government or utilities provider, further offsetting initial replacement costs. Electronic ballasts exceed the requirements of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which regulates ballast efficiencies for metal halide lamps. Electronic HID ballasted fixtures may also qualify for rebates from local utility companies, further offsetting initial replacement costs.

Fretlight: Learn to play guitar 10 times faster

Fretlight: Learn to play guitar 10 times faster
Author Malcolm Gladwell said it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become a creative genius, but who has the time for that?

Rusty Shaffer has a guitar and a digital tool kit that can turn you into the next Eddie Van Halen in a fraction of the time. Last week, Shaffer, the founder of Fretlight Guitar,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. visited CNET's office to show us how his FG-421 guitar worked.

A laptop with Guitar Pro 6 software preinstalled translated songs that had been downloaded from tablature, a site well-known in the music world for displaying songs in the form of instrument fingering rather than notes on a sheet. The song data is then feed into the guitar's built-in microprocessor via a USB connection. However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. The LED lights on the fretboard change positions to show aspiring musicians where to put their fingers.

Before Fretlight Guitar added this feature, the guitar was limited to displaying different scales. It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing. That must have been boring,Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs. especially when it had to compete with options such as (now-defunct) Guitar Hero, which was, of course, a game not a learning tool.

Fretlight won't pick up where Guitar Hero left off, but I can see it as a useful practice tool. When looking on the computer screen, you can zoom into a certain section of the music and set it on a loop, and slow it down when necessary.

I understand the frustration of practicing for hours to learn a song. After all, I spent four years playing the clarinet while I was in high school. For full disclosure, I am an inexperienced guitar player. Shaffer recommended I try to play the song "Smoke on the Water," a perfect tune for a beginner. It took me a couple of minutes to get a hang of reading the faint red LED lights on the guitar. It felt awkward, like singing "Like a Virgin" during a karaoke party--without a shot of tequila to loosen up.

Stephen Beacham, a CNET producer and an experienced guitarist, played "Thunderstruck." Like me,In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly it took Beacham a few minutes to adjust to the lights on the finger board. But when he did get the hang of it, he played the song from memory. No red lights needed.

Improving LED lighting

Improving LED lighting
Researcher from the University of Miami helps create a smaller, flexible LED

University of Miami professor at the College of Engineering, Jizhou Song, has helped design an light-emitting diode (LED) light that uses an array of LEDs 100 times smaller than conventional LEDs. The new device has flexibility, maintains lower temperature and has an increased life-span over existing LEDs. The findings are published online by the "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences."

Incandescent bulbs are not very efficient, most of the power they use is converted into heat and only a small fraction of the power gets converted to light. Since LEDs reduce energy waste and present an alternative to conventional bulbs.

In this study, the scientists focused on improving certain features of LED lights, like size, flexibility and temperature. Song's role in the project was to analyze the thermal management and establish an analytical model that reduces the temperature of the device.

"The new model uses a silicon substrate, novel etching strategies, a unique layout and innovative thermal management method," says Song, co-author of the study. "The combination of these manufacturing techniques allows the new design to be much smaller and keep lower temperatures than current LEDs using the same electrical power. However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage."

In the future, the researchers would also like to make the device stretchable, so that it can be used on any surface, such as deformable display monitors and biomedical devices that adapt to the curvilinear surfaces of the human body.Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs.

TEPCO report reveals chaos and lack of preparedness

TEPCO report reveals chaos and lack of preparedness in the hours following tsunami at Fukushima Daiichi
Radioactive water build-ups at the plant also continue to devil workers, who are trying to prevent another major overflow into the Pacific Ocean.

TEPCO has meanwhile said that today it will for the first time open the doors at reactor No 2 to ventilate the thick, humid air in a procedure that will take eight hours to avoid stirring up radioactive dust and particles inside.

The company has been trying to filter radioactive particles out of the air inside the building for several days, and Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency approved Friday plans to open the airlock, TECPO announced.

The ongoing disaster had led to three European countries, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, abandoning nuclear power forever with Germany set to shut down its last reactor in 2022, and Switzerland in 2035. Italy's popular referendum stopped plans to build reactors. Japan itself has said it will bulid no further nuclear power plants but remains unresolved about the further use of nuclear energy - while many government officials insist nuclear plants that were switched off after earthquake and tsunami on March 11, three quarters of the Japanese public are against continued use of nuclear power in their country.

Polls from several other nations that intend to keep pursuing their nuclear power programs reveal strong public opposition. And Russia has finally come forth and admitted that its own reactors could not withstand natural disasters, according to documents obtained by Bellona. These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device.

The 41-page TEPCO report, released over the weekend, offers a candid look at minute-by-minute errors during the first days of the disaster of the the plant was struck by an earthquake and a tsunami on March 11, and is based on interviews with workers and plant data.

TEPCO has been criticized for dragging its feet on venting and sea water cooling — the two crucial steps that experts say could have mitigated the damage. Company officials have said the tsunami created obstacles that were impossible to anticipate.

A report by an independent panel appointed by Japan’s prime minister is still pending.
Lack of emergency planning led to chaos

The TEPCO report paints a picture of chaos amid the desperate and unsuccessful battle to protect the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant from meltdown in March in the wake of the natural disaster.

The report shows that workers struggled with unfamiliar equipment and fear of radiation exposure.

The tsunami and earthquake destroyed the plants cooling systems and cut off all power,The particular ramifications of this saler4ds are usually astounding; in 3 years we should expect to view wholesale LED bulbs which have been 40 instances more efficient. causing the plants reactor Nos 1, 2, and 3 to melt down within hours.incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces.

Cooling power shut down in reactor No 1 two hours after the tsunami and workers tried to inject fresh water with a fire pump, but the fire pump was broken.

A fire engine at the plant couldn't reach the reactor because the tsunami left a huge tank blocking the driveway. Workers destroyed a power-operated gate to bring in the engine that arrived at the reactor hours later. It was early morning when they finally started pumping water into the reactor — but the core had already melted by then.

The engine eventually ran out of water, meaning that seawater had to be used as a substitute, scrapping the reactors altogether. The dumping of hundreds and thousands of tons of seawater on the plant from water cannons and helicopters had created ongoing difficulties with leaks of highly contaminated water from reactor Nos 1 and 2.
Emergency manuals not on hand in control room

The TEPCO report revealed that as workers struggled to reveal building pressure in reactor No 1 no manual that told them how to operate the venting system was to be found in the control room. You can easily say that it is a passion or a way to express yourself. So what's the story? Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique. A group had to be dispatched to find it in a separate building.

Only after their return did workers learn that the valve, which had been impaired by the power loss, could be opened manually – and that there was a handle to do so.
Delayed venting led to explosion

The failure to begin the venting procedure immediately after the plant black-out occurred has been cited by experts as being one of the most critical lapses leading to the eventual pressure explosion of reactor No 1’s containment building.

"Tepco should have prepared a manual on (manual) venting in advance, but it seems that wasn't the case," Keiji Miyazaki, professor emeritus at Osaka University and an expert on reactor accident management, told the Japan Times.

"Tepco also should have started the venting procedure right after the station blackout occurred," he said.

The time line in the report showed that Japan’s nuclear industry minister Banri Kaieda ordered venting to begin at 6:50 am on March 12, nearly a day after the initial disaster.
Workers halted venting to avoid radioactive contamination to nearby population

But TEPCO did not send anyone to begin the manual venting procedure until 9:04 am because they were awaiting confirmation that residents of Okuma, one of the towns that hosts the power plant, had been evacuated from areas at risk of being contaminated by the radioactive steam and other materials that would be released in the process.

This shows the workers had run up against a very difficult choice between venting as soon as they received the order, and contaminating the surrounding population, or waiting to be sure they could reduce that risk.It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects.

Unfortunately, revelations about the subsequent massive spread of radiation from the rest of the plant that have been made since the tsunami by the Japanese government and independent groups revealed that awaiting the confirmation was a moot point.

To prevent a critical failure, the report said, the pressure should have been released from the reactor's containment vessel, which would have allowed workers to inject more coolant water into the core.

Save energy – and money – at home

Save energy – and money – at home
What a hot time we’re having -- and summer hasn’t even arrived yet.An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. The heat is making air conditioners work extra hard, and the harder they work, the more energy they use.

Did you know that the typical U.S. family spends about $1,900 a year on home utility bills? Unfortunately, a large portion of that energy is wasted.

There are steps you can take to reduce the energy used in your home and save money at the same time. Energy-efficient improvements not only make your home more comfortable, but they also can yield long-term financial rewards. Reduced utility bills will more than make up for the higher price of energy-efficient appliances.

Just setting your thermostat on the right temperature setting can reduce energy consumption. It is recommended that you set the air conditioner at 78 degrees.

By lowering it just one degree, the air conditioner will use 2 percent more energy; two degrees lower uses 5 percent more energy; and three degrees uses 7 percent more energy. You get the idea.

If you raise the thermostat by one degree, you will save 3 percent on your energy bill. Raising it to 80 degrees will save you 6 percent.

Follow these easy steps to save more energy when using your air conditioner:

Move furniture away from air conditioning vents.

Change filters monthly. If you use pleated filters, change them at least every three months.

Use a ceiling or area fan in the summer to make the air feel up to six degrees cooler. However, use fans only if you are in the room. Running a fan doesn’t actually lower the temperature, it just makes you feel cooler. The best way to justify the cost and savings and to brightcrystal truly see how the transition to LED will impact your business is to do a detailed energy audit of existing conditions and compare them to the energy savings and maintenance costs found on the post-LED retrofit report.

Close window treatments during the time of day that the sun shines in the room.

Caulk around windows and doors, and replace weather-stripping that is flat and cracking.

Check the insulation in the attic, exterior and basement walls, ceilings, floors and crawl spaces. Visit www.energysavers.gov for instructions on checking your insulation levels.

Check for holes or cracks around your walls, ceilings, windows,These are also used as art light as well, it is because crystal these lights did not emit any harmful rays and the bluish color of LED lights makes a painting look very different from others and makes them attractive for the viewers. doors, light and plumbing fixtures, light switches and electrical outlets that can leak air into or out of your home.

Make sure your cooling and heating systems are properly maintained. Check your owner’s manuals for recommended maintenance.

There are other things you can do to reduce your energy consumption. In today’s world, saving energy also means you can save energy dollars in your household budget to help meet other expenses.

Turn off lights when you leave the room or an area that is unoccupied. For fluorescent lights, turn them off only if you’ll be away for more than 15 minutes. This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings. This prolongs the life of the fixture.

Use compact fluorescent light bulbs. They use about one-fourth the amount of energy as incandescent bulbs and last about 10 times longer.

Dust light bulbs. Dirty light bulbs can reduce light output by as much as 10 percent.

Use low wattage bulbs where applicable. Unless you frequently read in your closets and hallways, bright lights really aren’t necessary in these areas. Switch to low-wattage bulbs and save some energy.

Install dimmers. In areas where dimmed lighting makes sense, such as the dining room and bedroom, dimmers can save an equal percentage of energy as they are dimmed. Lights dimmed by 15 percent reduce energy consumption up to 15 percent.

Lower the temperature on the hot water heater to 120 degrees. If you will be away from your home for several days, turn the hot water heater off.

Air dry dishes instead of using your dishwasher’s drying cycle.

Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.

Insulate the hot water heater, but be careful not to cover the thermostat. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Shut down computers and turn off monitors when not in use.

Plug home electronics, such as TVs and DVD players, into power strips; turn the power strips off when the equipment is not in use (TVs and DVDs in standby mode still use several watts of power).

Take short showers instead of baths.

Turn off kitchen, bath and other exhaust fans within 20 minutes after you are done cooking or bathing. When replacing exhaust fans, consider installing high-efficiency, low-noise models.Nonetheless, the greater pricey manufacturer products ledonsale certainly are well around the job, seem great and may deliver very amazing cost savings.

Look for the Energy Star label on home appliances and products. Energy Star products meet strict efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
