The awards keep coming for Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Jerrell Freeman.
Freeman was named a CFL all-star on Wednesday for the first time in his threeyear CFL career. The all-star honour comes a week after Freeman was selected the West Division's nominee for the most outstanding defensive player. Last Thursday, Freeman, slotback Weston Dressler and rookie safety Craig Butler were named West Division all-stars.
Freeman was the lone representative from the Roughriders on the CFL allstar squad which was selected by members of the Football Reporters of Canada, CFL head coaches and fans. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Roughriders were the only teams with one representative on the dream team.
The B.C. Lions led the way with nine CFL all-stars. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers had five all-stars, including guard Brendon LaBatte, a graduate of the University of Regina Rams who hails from Weyburn. The Calgary Stampeders had three, followed by the Montreal Alouettes, Edmonton Eskimos and Toronto Argonauts with two each.
The league's individual award winners are to be announced on Nov. 24 during the Grey Cup festival in Vancouver.
Freeman completed his first season as a starter with the Roughriders by leading the league with 105 defensive tackles in 17 regular-season
games.
