Gillick humbled by Hall of Fame honors
They flooded the village streets here Sunday morning in their Blue Jays jerseys, flocking Woodstock-style toward the vast fields at the Clark Sports Center.
There went a couple rocking matching, baby blue No. 12 Roberto Alomar jerseys. And dozens and dozens and dozens more wearing bright blue Toronto batting practice jerseys, vintage white Blue Jays logo tees, Joe Carter throwbacks and Roy Halladay classics.
"In 1992, we became the first team outside of the United States to win a World Series title," former Blue Jays general manager Pat Gillick said in his Hall of Fame induction speech. "And then we repeated in 1993. ..."
They cheered, loudly, from the seats in front of the stage to the pop-up tents dotting the hills in the back, a quarter-of-a-mile away.
"I'm so proud to represent you as the first Toronto Blue Jay inducted into the Hall of Fame," Alomar proclaimed during his speech.

The scoreboard has not been kind to the Blue Jays for the past decade, and the AL East has been even worse.
But Toronto again stuck out its chest and stepped back into the baseball spotlight on a historic, sweltering and perfect Norman Rockwell afternoon amid the kids selling water and soda along sidewalks and a local church finishing its morning service with the congregation singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame instead of a traditional hymn (seriously).
Prayers of the faithful?
This is the place they're usually answered.
Nearly two decades down the road, the Blue Jays may have been 13 games back in the division on Sunday morning.The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes; But by Sunday afternoon, it was as if Carter himself was still dancing following his Game 6 home run in the 1993 World Series.
And it was as if the years between now and Alomar's Game 4, ninth-inning homer against Hall of Fame Oakland closer Dennis Eckersley in the 1992 A.L. Championship Series had melted away in the thick humidity and 90-some degrees.
"Baseball is about talent and hard work and strategy,This is also known as ledbright your return on investment " Gillick, the architect of those Toronto title teams, said during his speech. "But at the deepest level, it's about love, integrity and respect. Respect for the game, respect for your colleagues, respect for the shared bond that is bigger than any one of us."
Along those lines, in a year that has been every bit as difficult on the Hall of Fame as the Yankees and Red Sox have been on the Blue Jays, emotions were even more jangled than usual.

"It's the first time I've come back when so many have died. There's a big hole here.
"It's just something you see in the atmosphere. Every year, people sit in the same spots, arrive at the same time. You get here now and you look around, and they're not here.
