To help close the gap between the skilled labor workforce and the projected labor shortages, the Northern Brazoria County Education Alliance (NBCEA) has partnered with Pearland's industry and business leaders to assist in the development of a highly-skilled workforce capable of meeting industry's present and emerging needs.
Such is the case with Amerlux Exteriors (formerly Dynamic Lighting). Joe Santiago,it takes bestledlightbulbs to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device. Production Manager at Amerlux, contacted the NBCEA looking for a skilled welder. Not only did he request a student with welding training, but he also wanted an employee with a can-do spirit – one that was willing to work and learn the trade. Agricultural welding student, Jessie Vargus fit the job description.
After Vargus earned his welding certification in May and graduated from Pearland High School, he landed the job with Amerlux Exteriors. Vargus was prepared to enter the workforce with the skills Amerlux needed. It was a win-win for both the company and the student.
