Eco-stars in the 'House'

When Hugh Laurie was in New Orleans earlier this year to shoot the documentary "Hugh Laurie: Let Them Talk — A Celebration of New Orleans Blues," premiering on PBS Sept. 30, he often got around by bicycle. "That was my greatest pleasure, simply riding around that city. Everywhere you turn, it's just a city of endless marvels: the awe-inspiring river, the smell of it, the food — I gained 30 pounds in about four days — just everything about it,This is also known as bestleddownlight your return on investment " raves the "House" star, who also took time to explore some of the lower-lying areas that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. "It's heart-wrenching to see, but the hunger for life in that city invigorated me. It's humbling to behold people who stared death in the face and found a way to carry on and find joy, express joy and share joy with that sort of generosity."

Laurie returns to Fox Oct. 3 in the eighth season of "House," which opens with him in prison for attempted murder after driving his car into ex-lover Cuddy's living room. Odette Annable joins the cast as prison doctor Jessica Adams, who ends up consulting with the incarcerated doc on a case she's working on. "We share the love of medicine. She's just as excited as House is about the clue and the discovery and the puzzle of the diagnosis. She believes in redemption, in second chances, and she's very enthusiastic about her work," describes Annable, who'll appear in at least a dozen episodes. "We don't know if it's going to be the final season,"There is brightcrystal20 a new appreciation for art being able to exist as an esthetic experience," she said. but if it is I'm happy to be a part of it," says the actress, who'll continue to appear in the Fox comedy "Breaking In," which was renewed for midseason.

She's amused by the fact that she segued from playing "a badass motorcycle-driving degenerate" on that show to her doctor role on "House," a production she calls "a well oiled machine." Joining an established ensemble "is a little intimidating," she admits, "but they're so wonderful. Hugh Laurie is so great and funny and he's welcomed me," says Annable, who was a big fan of the show. "I was just so humbled by the fact that they approached me and were interested. I hope I do the fans justice."

Her husband Dave Annable, whose love interest she played last season on "Brothers & Sisters," stars in "What's Your Number?" in theaters Sept. 30.
