Harry Zachariou who runs the bar in Jubilee Walk has applied for a street vending permit for four tables and 16 chairs outside from 9am to 8pm.

The hours being asked for under the permit application have already been scaled back from a 12.30am finish on weekdays, and 2.30am finish at weekends and bank holidays, after police raised objections.

"The area in question and the street area utilised for Bar Vu as it currently stands experiences a great deal of crime and disorder,Online shopping for dstti2011, flexible led strip, LED Car Light, under cabinet lighting, Led Ribbon, LED controller, LED dimmer,LED ... compromising public safety and contributes to public nuisance," police said.

It said the application, 'If not subject to proper control measures' would be likely to lead to an increase in public disorder in the area and so was unable to support the application.

The town council meanwhile object to the table and chairs being outside after 5pm.

"Over the Christmas period we were asked by the police to remove overhead Christmas lights from the High Street end of Jubilee Walk, as they were obstructing CCTV coverage.

"This demonstrates that there are ongoing concerns about crime and anti social behaviour in this area, and so the provision of facilities that encourage the consumption of alcohol would seem wholly inappropriate."

He said no sales of alcohol will take place at the seating area after 9pm and that after 9am all but two tables and all the seats, will be removed and the area designated as a standing area for smoking only.
