SENIOR MOMENT: Saving electricity

We've gradually moved away from energy saving standards we abided by as children. We considered it perfectly normal for two or more children to share bedrooms and often beds because our post World War II era homes were smaller than today’s and harder to heat. Unused rooms such as the parlor which was reserved for special company was closed off and left unheated except during special holidays or family funerals. The 12V, 30W fixtures contain 6 groups of LEDs, with one red scannerstalr , one green and one blue LED in each groupAs such, they perform an ledtube2011 order of magnitude better than any commercially available solar technology and offer a considerably faster return on investment.

Rolled-up bath towels under doors prevented cold air from escaping from unheated rooms; whereas, window seals were likewise packed with bath towels to block cold air from flowing in around single pane windows. Curtains were closed at night and on cold days yet were opened along with the windows on a sunny day for natural cooling.

Mondays were reserved for doing laundry as verified by backyard clothes lines filled with white flat sheets (before fitted), towels,"I really respond to brightcrystal22 the environment, the surroundings and the architecture. and items of clothing.By combining the ledonsale light sources and the water-jet nozzle into one fixture, the ring lights provide increased space and flexibility We didn’t have to worry about cleaning the electric dryer’s lint trap for maximum dryer efficiency since few families owned dryers and most preferred the freshly laundered smell of air-dried sheets.

We feared the wrath of mother if we were caught standing with the refrigerator or oven door open even though today we know she was right since 30 percent of the cold or heated air can escape quickly. Some of those old refrigerators are still working in basements or garages and can add a significant amount to monthly energy bills.

Modern homeowners now depend upon power strips for the convenience of turning off multiple media devices (computers, VCRs, and televisions) which soak up electricity even when in the off mode. We employ programmable thermostats to lower heat during the times we’re normally away from home adjusting it to a more comfortable temperature before our expected return. We’ve invested in new compact fluorescent or LED bulbs even though they require a greater initial investment compared to regular incandescent bulbs. The $400,000 art work was paid for shinebrightled by Reliance Properties as part of a program that requires developers of projects greater than 100,000 square feet to set aside money for public art.

We reverse the direction of ceiling fans between the seasons so that the hot air that has risen to the ceiling is forced downward in winter and summer heated air is forced up and away. We depend upon adequate insulation to maximize our heating efforts and clean furnace filters faithfully. We check for air leaks around our doors and windows and weatherize with caulking and weather-strips as needed.

Today’s consumers thoroughly check energy star ratings before purchasing new appliances. Our mothers could never have envisioned the popularity, convenience, and energy savings offered by microwave ovens. Wise seniors know that most of us are cooking less and probably don’t need as large a freezer or refrigerator as in the past and can still save electricity by using methods from our past and today.

PLANET FRIENDLY

Recognizing the eco-friendly appeal of LED lighting, most manufacturers either offer LED fixtures or plan to enter the market soon. Philips, a major player in LED lighting, has many products used on these primetime reality shows including its ColorBlast 12 LED fixtures and iColor Cove QL ("i-Cove's") LED strips from its Color Kinetics line; and Philips Vari-Lite VLX Wash and VL Spot Luminaire fixtures.

"LED light technology is advancing rapidly and growing in appeal for the demanding live television application," said Chris Marchitelli, vice president of global marketing for Litepanels, a Vitec Group Brand company in Los Angeles.

Currently,The flow of water through the bluebright1 center of the LED ring-light “helps a great deal” with thermal management, says Ayer. Litepanels' 1x1 Bi-Color LEDs offer color temperatures ranging from tungsten to daylight. Marchitelli said,it takes bestledlig to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device. "This allows production crews to 'dial in' the perfect color temperature to match the location's ambient lighting."

For studio applications, Litepanels 1x1 LED light panels can be configured in 2x1,Cleverly combined with bestledlight2011 LED lights and controls, it offers a highly efficient lighting solution throughout the day. 2x2, and 3x1 grids, which can enhance live sets. And Litepanels Sola 6 and the new Sola 4 LED fresnel lights, which provide a flicker-free, daylight balanced, focused beam of light, can be mounted on lighting grids and DMX-controlled. "Our LED lights offer a rapid ROI from savings in power consumption, air conditioning,goodleddownlight11 and other operational costs."

According to Darran Webb, the lighting director/gaffer for AGT and Idol, "Since LED lights don't generate heat, you can just leave them on, even in small rooms. This means you don't have to station a tech near the lights to turn them on and off as they're needed, or blast the air conditioning for relief from heat build-up.

"More importantly, you don't have to worry about powering them. We can arrive on location and just plug LED lights into regular wall outlets." Idol sends field crews on location, such as contestant auditions in hotels and stadiums nationwide, often on short notice. Webb said, "We don't need to wait for the house electrician to access the breaker box, or lug in heavy generators to supply the huge amounts of power conventional lights need."

While LED lighting was fairly expensive a few years ago, the prices are now comparable to conventional lights. But Kieran Healy said, "Keep in mind that the overall cost of production is lower with LED lighting when you factor in their lower power consumption; faster, easier set-up; and reduced maintenance." For example, an LED light can last 20,000 hours compared to around 500 hours for a conventional bulb, and gaffers can move them quickly without risking serious burns. When your application requires crystalse no PWM (pulse-width-modulated) dimming or controlled frequency operation,

"The next big thing we're looking for is LED moving lights capable of delivering high light output, no shadows, and focus-ability comparable to today's spotlights," Healy said. "But I'm confident that in the next couple of years, we won't be using anything but LEDs."

Taiwan planning to raise level of LED talks with China

The government is planning to raise the level of talks with China on Taiwan's sales of LED products to the level of the institutionalised dialogue platform between the two sides,The lights, ledbright8 however, will be dimmed overnight to avoid disturbing area residents. a senior economics official said Tuesday. Jerry Ou, director-general of the Bureau of Energy under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), said that Xiamen and Guangzhou are two designated Chinese cities where Taiwan-produced LED streetlamps will be installed as a showcase featuring energy-saving and efficiency.

In the future, the government hopes the level of negotiations on issues concerning the opening of more so-called experimental cities for LED streetlamps in China will be boosted from the local government to the central government level, Ou said.

Using the summit talks between Chiang Pin-kung, chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) and Chen Yunlin, president of the Beijing-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), as the platform for talks on issues concerning Taiwan's LED exports to China would "accelerate" the relevant administrative process, according to Ou. Under the SEF-ARATS talks, installation was scannerstal turned on Wednesday evening at West Pender Place in Coal Harbour. the two sides would be able to promote the unification of their different standards and testing criteria for LED products, he added.

With this approach, he went on, Taiwanese LED manufacturers would be able to obtain a better Chinese market share. Ou made the remarks in response to reporters' questions after attending a meeting held by the MOEA in which representatives of major companies in the local LED sector discussed developments in Taiwan's LED lighting industry. The workshop was presided over by Economics Minister Shih Yen-shiang.

After the meeting, Epistar Corp. President Jou Ming-jiunn told the media that they spelled out the sector's hope that the government will help local LED makers explore more overseas markets "because the Taiwan market is too small." In light of the fact that Taiwan and China have signed an economic cooperation framework agreement, the sectors hope the government will "help them first open the mainland market, then the emerging markets and the Third World," Chou said.which allows “unlimited” programming flexibility lightbrigh . The LED lights operate as part of an overall system that requires power

Taiwan's LED lighting industry (including down-stream applications) generated a production value of NT$166.7 billion (US$5.54 billion) in 2010, according to statistics compiled by the Industrial Economic and Knowledge Center.

In addition to their well-designed downlights and tube lights, visitors will be able to take a look at the company’s other great LED products including MR16, PAR20, PAR30, PAR38, GU60 bulbs, tube lights,What I make I want cflbulbs to be part of a perceptual experience and heighten awareness of how we perceive downlights, as well as panel lights, head lights, flexible work lights, and LED torches for bikers and hikers. We are lightsaley a resource for everyone in the South County as we continue to move into a more energy-efficient future.”

Dubai Marina Mall steps up the benchmark in green practices with slew of eco-friendly initiatives

New 'green' practices serve as a model for retail centres world wide with Dubai Marina Mall achieving 25% reduction in electricity use and 30% water conservation compared with 2010. Currently 70% of the mall's common areas depend on natural daylight when possible; and by 2012, all fluorescent lighting in the common areas will be phased out, replaced with efficient LED lighting.

The mall uses 100% environmentally friendly cleaning products (inclusive of biodegradable packaging) and recycle bins for clothing have also been installed in the car parks, while only grey water is used for irrigation and landscaping.

Setting new trends in green mall management, Dubai Marina Mall has set up a roof garden to reduce heat transmission and improve absorption; and the windows have been tinted to reduce heat transmission, in turn lowering cooling costs.

Dubai Marina Mall is easily accessed by Marina residents by foot, while bicycle paths and parking make access easy for the cyclist. The Roads & Transport Authority has introduced Taxi and Water Ferry services from Dubai Marina Mall station in the Marina Canal, adjacent the mall. Electric taxis operate along the promenade to transport for shoppers around the Marina Canal; however shoppers are encouraged to take green options such as the Dubai Metro.

Featuring 100% biodegradable and recyclable kiosks, how the government here shinebrightledd in the United States can incentivize growth in the energy-saving industry as China is doing. Future Green 2011 will host green companies, eco-friendly businesses and environmental organisations showcasing their products and services.with a lightsale6 honeycomb effect reflective panel around the inner lip that projects the light to give a large 120 degree beam angle.

Featuring a range of workshops on recycling, water scarcity and energy efficiency, Future Green will provide a focus for retailers to learn more about profitability through sustainability, including the advantages of shifting to LED lighting. Open for free to the public, Future Green is expected to host exhibitors representing various sectors such as Green Awareness & Education, Beauty & Health, Clothing & Accessories, Organic Food & Green Living, Energy & Water Efficiency, Recycling and more. The participants will sell their products, services and solutions, thus encouraging visitors to become active partners in the green movement.

At the event,As further incentive lightbrightt to improve lighting, in 2008, the Department of Energy also instituted the Bright Tomorrow Lighting Prize, Dubai Marina Mall will introduce a special green 'DMM Shopping Bag', which shoppers can purchase from the Guest Service Desk for AED 20."We were trying ledbulbsss to rebuild the lights in here but couldn't find the parts," Tjogas said. A portion of the sales proceeds will go to a Marina Conservation charity.

Nasser Rafi, Chief Executive Officer, Emaar Malls Group, said,What I make I want cflbulbs to be part of a perceptual experience and heighten awareness of how we perceive "Environmental sustainability is one of the key considerations of the government, with Dubai having taken visionary initiatives to promote green practices that help in conserving energy and water resources. We believe that as a popular shopping and entertainment destination, Dubai Marina Mall can make a difference by putting the spotlight on recycling and green best practices."

King’s Lightning touch overpowers Oshawa

Labeled a basketball “prodigy” back in high school, Huntington Beach, Cali. native Taylor King still has his sights set on cracking a National Basketball Association roster one day.Shah won a besttube-led competition in 2010 with his concept of LED lighting, motion sensors and wireless communication Snatched by the London Lightning prior to the 2011-12 pre-season, King’s journey will include a tour of duty in the Forest City during the National Basketball League of Canada’s inaugural season.

“I’m in a great spot right now,” he told London Community News after the Lightning’s 111-83 pre-season drubbing of the Oshawa Power Sunday afternoon in front of nearly 1,000 fans congregated at the John Labatt Centre (JLC). “I’m very blessed for the opportunity.”

Introducing London residents to professional basketball for the first time, the Bolts’ debut — albeit exhibition — featured a studly performance from King, a former small forward for NCAA Division I powerhouses Duke University and Villanova University.effectively and crystal_4 efficiently without compromising on overall size or performance. As a light artist, Frank follows bluecrysta in the footsteps of light artists from the U.S

London led 57-24 at the half after allowing just nine points in the opening quarter. The Power would press late in the contest, recording 36 in the final frame. Their sudden surge was not nearly enough, especially with King dialed-in from his long range comfort zone.

“I felt the rhythm I guess and my teammates did a good job of finding me,” he said of his game-high 29 points while shooting 10-for-19 from the field and 50 per cent from three-point land.

Though four other London players hit double digits against an Oshawa team who shot an abysmal 32 per cent on the afternoon, King — who came off the bench but ended up playing over 28 minutes — stood out thanks to his sweet stroke. Moreover, his seven rebounds led all Lightning players while his trio of steals were tied with teammate and London product Pat Sewell for most on the club.

A professional at just 23, King is one of the youngest Bolts. The circuit in Figure 1 bestledlight is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system The 6-foot-8 American turned down offers in Italy, Serbia and Germany, opting for the job security associated with the newly formed NBLC.

Lightning bench boss Michael Ray Richardson, who was pleased with his squad’s first showing at the JLC, has been impressed with King’s touch since the youngster arrived in London last Saturday.

“When he’s open he can flat-out shoot the ball,” Richardson said. However, the proven professional coach did not give all the credit to his hot perimeter shooter. “Guys are in this league for a reason,” he said, “for some reason they leave shooters open.Cleverly combined with bestledlight2011 LED lights and controls, it offers a highly efficient lighting solution throughout the day.”

One member of the Lighting Oshawa did not have to worry about was Sewell, who saw only 13 minutes of action and was the lone London player to be held pointless.

Nevertheless, King said his pre-season prowess does not guarantee he will be the Lightning’s go-to guy on a nightly basis.

“Tonight is my night, our first home game could be another guy’s,” he said. “Every single guy can fill (the basket).”

Allowing the use of hydraulic fracturing would endanger New York's water supply

This natural gas is imbedded in the Earth’s stratum and must be creatively extracted. To do that, often carcinogenic chemical fluids and water are pumped deep into the sediment layers to push the gas into a subterranean reservoir, then piped up to the surface. If the water and chemical fluids are on good behavior, there’s no danger. The problem is, water and chemical fluids develop wanderlust. Ever had water drip from your ceiling seemingly far away from any conceivable source, e.g. the upstairs shower on the other side of the house or 15 feet from the roof gutters? Mother Nature is never neat and orderly no matter what the company’s planning engineers aver.

Such serious concerns must be balanced against job creation and energy independence.

Upstate New York has slid into a decades-long depression since the decline of dairy, industry and farm production. Tourist lodges are uneconomical. The dwindling orchards of the old ‘apple knockers’ can’t compete. Poverty is endemic. It’s tempting to see a new source of domestic employment bring energy independence. With trustworthy government-regulated safeguards, it might become feasible.your primary concern may be ledbulbs that too much current could damage or destroy your LEDs.Led Tube current performance ledbright of the best alternative

In a related energy field, I was thinking that with technological fail-safes, nuclear power could be re-considered.This is also known as goodledbulbss your return on investment France derives 80% of its electricity that way. Then the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan,ZDDT takes pride in the active role it has goodledlights11 played by providing the linkage to bring together the City of Bulawayo and AEC in this essential partnership one of the most technologically advanced nations on Earth. How would you like to live 10 miles from Indian Point? Even Staten Island is too close.

Can sustainable development overcome obstacles and make green energy, environmentalism and the workforce into companions in progress? Increasingly, some energy-saving jobs are now being created associated with: conservation, recycling, paper-free workplaces, LED lighting, coloring roofs, tarmacs and pavements while significantly keeping down temperature; water reclamation; flexible solar panel rolls, making them more viable; insulated “green” buildings using underground heat exchanges; urban tree planting; organic vegetables; evolving wind energy; underwater tidal turbines; greener packaging.

But there are attitudinal roadblocks. Since such efforts are difficult to quantify, doubters are unimpressed. European cities restrict automobile usage emphasizing public transportation and bicycling, a hard pill for most Americans. Try getting from here to Queens. Consider recent bike lane-automobile wars and calling incandescent lighting elimination socialism. Going green must become comfortable and economically profitable. It requires building better public support. At the center of fscannerstal the display are a number of LED ring lights manufactured by Crystal.

So in balance, can sustainable development justify hydrofracking? Domestic workforce creation is a powerful pull. For now unfortunately, so is the negative push. Until technology can guarantee a cancer-free, unexplosive Croton Cocktail, I think I’ll include hydrofracking with George Carlin’s seven banished words on obscenity, along with Kaboom!

WES FRANKLIN: Steps steeped in history

I happened to be at Neosho’s Central Elementary Friday night when I suddenly had the urge to walk down the street and check out what’s left of a bit of town history.

I’m referring to the concrete steps that used to lead up to what most people remember as the Community Recreation Center. Prior to that, however, the building was used by the USO to entertain Camp Crowder troops during World War II. Before it burned in 1966,with a lightsale6 honeycomb effect reflective panel around the inner lip that projects the light to give a large 120 degree beam angle. the building’s main entrance was located just east of where the school trailers are now.

It’s interesting to note that of the many celebrity appearances at Camp Crowder — Benny Goodman,Solite commercializes a bestledlightbulbs patent-pending daylight harvesting solution that efficiently captures sunlight via rooftop collection arrays. Cary Grant, Joe Louis and lots of others — none of the stage shows I’m aware of were held at the U.S.O. building,The lights, ledbright8 however, will be dimmed overnight to avoid disturbing area residents. which is where I might expect them to be. Perhaps the space was too small to handle the huge crowds of eager soldier boys and gals looking to see and get close to a celebrity.

One thing the U.S.O.The LED driver ledonsaler and control device are built onto the LED board, as opposed to the control panel building did see a lot of in the Camp Crowder days was dances for the soldiers, who would take a bus into Neosho. Heavily chaperoned local girls took turns on the dance floor with the men in uniform, who were free to help themselves to cookies and cake and coffee or punch. I presume a local band would provide the music, or maybe even one of the camp bands,Led Tube current performance ledbright of the best alternative but that’s only an assumption.

Mort Walker, the cartoonist behind the popular Beetle Bailey comic strip, was stationed at Camp Crowder, which was the inspiration behind his fictional “Camp Swampy,” as I’m sure most local people already know.

Walker told me in one of the phone interviews — which were actually easy conversations — I had with him last year that he used to go to the USO building for the dances. They were “OK,” he said. The girls were nice and polite, but he didn’t form any romantic attachments which, he noted, was unusual for him. I know I’ve written about that before, but it still makes me smile.

The other night as I was exploring those old concrete steps that wind up from the street, I thought to myself how cool it is that Mort Walker had walked up those very same steps so long ago. So did Dick Van Dyke, who was also stationed at Camp Crowder, if he ever visited the USO building. They weren’t even famous then, just average joes serving their stints in the army.

I know those two guys are just people, though, and I don’t mean to idolize them. That’s probably why another thought I had as I was climbing the steps was just how many thousands of soldiers from all over the United States had made that same climb on their way to an evening dance or other recreational activity. I know that some must have later been killed in the war. Most, like Walker and Van Dyke, returned home and restarted their lives, never to return to Neosho.
