PCJ Donates Solar Project to St. Mary Basic School

PCJ Donates Solar Project to St. Mary Basic School
In keeping with its national energy efficiency and conservation programme, the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) has donated a Solar powered system valued at approximately$1.1 million to the Woodpark Basic School in St. Mary. The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting, The school was outfitted with a 1 kW peak Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System to power indoor and outdoor lights in the form of 36W T8 Fluorescent lamps (indoors) and one dusk-to-dawn 65W fluorescent lamp. Prior to the PCJ’s intervention, the school operated without electricity.

At a handing over ceremony held recently on the school’s compound, Group Chief Technical Director of the PCJ, Dr. Earl Green said that the donation was indicative of the PCJ’s unwavering commitment to optimize energy use in the public sector by auditing Government operated facilities, identifying energy conservation opportunities and implementing initiatives that will realize tangible savings.

He told the gathering that he expected the project to act as a catalyst for the development of an energy culture in which members of the Woodpark community embrace energy efficiency and renewable energy.

“Energy efficiency and renewable energy represent the way forward and through projects like this, we hope to communicate this message to as many persons as possible throughout Jamaica… We hope that this project will serve as an early introduction to the energy industry for the young ones. They seem fascinated by the system and with the right encouragement and opportunities, we believe that this fascination can one day be converted to a career in energy”,This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings. Dr. Green said.

Meanwhile Principal at the school Donnett DeSouza stated that the project was a blessing and will enhance the learning experience for the students.

“This project means a lot to our school and community, the light was well needed. Whenever it rained and became dark it was difficult for us to teach but now we no longer have that problem as we have electricity. This is just the start and we hope to continue to improve our energy infrastructure”, she said, adding that the project has piqued the interest of many members of the Woodpark community “who now want to know more about the system, whether they can get one for their home, business etc."

The overall goal of the PCJ’s energy efficiency and conservation programme is to create a paradigm shift towards the use of alternative energy, supported by the propagation of evolving energyThese are also used as art light as well, it is because crystal these lights did not emit any harmful rays and the bluish color of LED lights makes a painting look very different from others and makes them attractive for the viewers. saving technologies.,led light bulbs One of the most basic devices that run on LED is a flashlight. The controversial Top Gear presenter, who has driven environmentalists mad with his eco-sceptism, was commenting on the energy-saving mode on his new TV when he referred to “Lenny Henry in a cave”.

In a newspaper column, he wrote: “Like so many things in life these days, my new LG flatscreen television has an eco feature. You can choose how much energy you would like it to consume. Very little, a medium amount or tons. But one word of warning.

Light Boss' Developer Sheds New Cost-Saving Light On Energy

'Light Boss' Developer Sheds New Cost-Saving Light On Energy Conservation
Immediate Energy Savings From Local Innovation

We see it happening everyday, everywhere we look. Big wattage lights sucking up energy from an already maxed-out electricity grid. If a company or facility is using High-intensity Discharge systems (HID) then they are at the mercy of existing technology and spiralling energy costs.

But a Cambridge, Ontario company has come up with a technology solution which suggests that things are all about to change. With the release of their new product line called Light Boss, their customers can take existing lighting systems and realize significant savings out of the gate--no looking back.

"LightBoss* is an energy saving controller for High-intensity Discharge (HID) lighting systems," says Randy Hood, technology specialist and co-founder of the company.

"Through the use of patented technology, the LightBoss can save up to 40% of the electricity cost of your HID lighting (both indoor and outdoor). One local company with an installed LightBoss unit is saving over $3,000 per month on their electricity costs," says Hood.

Hood points out that most lighting energy cost reduction solutions require a complicated,This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings. time consuming and expensive removal and retrofit of the entire lighting system while LightBoss simply requires the installation of a new lighting control panel. LightBoss enables users to save money without first having to spend a small fortune.

The possibilites are very exciting because it's not something which requires 15 years to recoup your investment. The ROI is typically 12 to 24 months depending on the number of HID lights and how long they are on each day. LightBoss is currently being tested and specified for parking lot and highway lighting by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) in Ontario.

LightBoss is ideal for any installation where energy savings are desired and 100% illumination is not required 100% of the time,The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs," says Keith McGlone, sales associate for LightBoss. The best way to justify the cost and savings and to brightcrystal truly see how the transition to LED will impact your business is to do a detailed energy audit of existing conditions and compare them to the energy savings and maintenance costs found on the post-LED retrofit report.Typical installations include parking lots, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, schools, car dealerships, sports facilities, and the list goes on,An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights." he said.

Local Car Dealership Turns To LightBoss

Ian Murdoch, owner of Waterloo Nissan was ready for LightBoss after the last hike in his hydro bill.

"We have a lot of HID lighting around the dealership. We are required to have adequate night time lighting and that can really get costly. LightBoss has enabled us to install it and use it without changing the whole system," says Murdoch. "I'm looking forward to seeing just how much I can actually save,The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting," he said.

Putting sparkle into town’s heart

Putting sparkle into town’s heart
PUTTING the beating heart back into Blackpool.

That is the message from a new lighting feature set to adorn the Tower.

Tourism chiefs want to put the sparkle back into the Grade I landmark by adorning the front with a giant illuminated heart which would overlook the Comedy Carpet.

Made up of hundreds of LED lights, it could be programmed to create multiple patterns, colours and shimmering effects.

LEDs are also set to replace the existing lights at the top of the Tower,In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.  while new bulbs will be fitted to the legs of the structure.

Listed building consent is being sought from the council for the scheme which it is hoped could be in place in time for this year’s Illuminations.

Iain Hawkins (pictured), Blackpool head of Merlin which operates the Tower, said: “We think this signifies the new beating heart of Blackpool and the way everything is coming together.

“One of the things we talk about at Merlin is sparkle.

“We are bringing a lot of new attractions to the town but one of the things we want to provide is added sparkle.

“The new high tech lighting will mean we can turn the top of the Tower and the heart into any colour we want and make it a beacon for Blackpool.

“When people are approaching the town from the motorway, they will see it in the distance and it will look fantastic.”

Elaine Smith, chairman of Blackpool Civic Trust, welcomed the new lighting scheme.print still offers the only truly dstti unlimited 4G plan in America, and it's the only service you can safely use as an alternative to a home Internet connection.

She said: “I think the heart is a great idea because the Tower is at the heart of Blackpool.

“As long as it doesn’t do any damage to the actual structure,LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. that is ok but all the work Merlin is doing is very sympathetic to the building.

“The Tower is an entertainment venue when all is said and done, and if it brings people to Blackpool to look at it, that’s great.”

The heart will be linked to the wedding chapel currently being built on the Tower Festival Headland.

It would face west and be mounted between 128 feet and 165 fight up the structure.

Its design is based on the heart used in VisitBlackpool’s ‘I Love Blackpool’ marketing campaign.

The LEDs within it are similar to those already used in the Illuminations welcome arches and can be programmed to create multiple patterns, colours and shimmering effects.

They can create 16 million colours,Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one. according to a report accompanying the plans.

The report adds: “From a simple red beating heart to a green St Patrick’s Day special, many options are available.

“The heart can operate as either a stand alone or can be controlled from the wedding chapel so it can be linked to specific wedding activities if required by arrangement.it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area.”

Meanwhile, work is progressing on the new Blackpool Tower Dungeon and the observation deck, which are due to open in September.

Mr Hawkins said: “The top of the Tower is going to be completely different to how it was before.”

Lighting has adorned the Tower in various ways for at least 50 years but parts of the existing festoon are now reaching the end of their natural life.

Stop pussy-footing around when it comes to cracking down

Stop pussy-footing around when it comes to cracking down on anti-social behaviour in Bristol.
W E should not have to tolerate any forms of anti-social behaviour in this country at all. What do the Authorities – Local and Police – feel there is to gain by making us endure all forms of nightmare situations for minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years on end?

Where I live I find I am supposed to endure aggravation upon aggravation, all day, every day and why?

It ranges from music emanating from properties, passing vehicles and pedestrians, loud vehicle exhausts and engines, barking dogs, the beeping of vehicle horns used for every purpose other than their intended legal one, the slamming of vehicle, garage and property doors, mobile phone conversations, the letting off of fireworks for just about any occasion outside of November 5th, including New Year. Celebrate the New Year by all means, but spare a thought for others in your process of doing so.

Windchimes – what is it about installing a demented version of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells in your garden 24/7 that is supposed to not turn any of your neighbours from reasonable people into unreasonable ones?

Putting out food left-overs/ stale bread which attracts flocks of gulls to descend and defecate all over the place, putting out nuts etc., for the bird population, only to attract squirrels which then disrupt seedlings etc., in their process of burying/ unearthing their forage and the biggest and most anti-social bane of them all – barbecues! We're advised to save energy and dry washing outside,it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area. what and have it come in smelling worse and dirtier than it was before it was washed in the first place? I don't think so! I can't breathe and can't open windows without the prevailing smoke stinking my entire home out and leaving me gasping for air, with a dry throat, runny nose and stinging, watering eyes.

Whatever happened to the more socially acceptable form of al fresco dining that was picnics? What is our obsession with risking food poisoning,Thankfully a new form of led strip energy-efficient light bulbs have arrived that provide this desired feature. cancers and polluting our lungs and our atmosphere? Strange how smoke from bonfires and chimney smoke in the winter months can be blamed for atmospheric carbon emissions that are damaging to our environment and ecology and we're all expected to comply with burning 'smokeless' fuels, installing condensing combi boilers and using energy saving light-bulbs etc.Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one., in our quests to cut these emissions,In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.  but it's fine to carry on regardless and do quite the opposite day in and day out over the summer months, even if it is raining! Add to that the media in all its forms, ie papers, weather forecasters, advertisers and the like don't help in their promotion of all things barbecue related, from the barbecues themselves, to the food for them and the fuel.

Diary all the above, all the time? I think not and to be quite honest, I don't see why I should.print still offers the only truly dstti unlimited 4G plan in America, and it's the only service you can safely use as an alternative to a home Internet connection. Anti-social behaviour should be dealt with in its first instance regardless of what form it takes. Offenders need to be shown at the outset that what they're doing will not be tolerated within society.

WA union orders speed camera tip-offs

WA union orders speed camera tip-offs
The West Australian Police Union has ordered its members to tip off motorists about speed camera sites by parking patrol cars nearby with emergency lights flashing.Thankfully a new form of led strip energy-efficient light bulbs have arrived that provide this desired feature.

The directive comes in the middle of a union campaign for a pay increase above the state government's latest offer of 12.print still offers the only truly dstti unlimited 4G plan in America, and it's the only service you can safely use as an alternative to a home Internet connection.Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one.5 per cent over three years.

But President Russell Armstrong says the speed camera directive is about safety after a camera operator was threatened and a camera stolen and damaged in Perth's south last week.In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.

He said officers in marked police cars had been urged to do "welfare checks" on speed camera operators during their patrols, pulling over nearby with lights flashing.

Mr Armstrong rejected suggestions it was a bid to undermine revenue from speed cameras and said if it slowed motorists down that was a good thing.it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area.

The union has said previously that if the pay dispute wasn't resolved to the satisfaction of the membership, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Perth in October could be affected.

But Mr Armstrong said any industrial action by the union would never put the public at risk.
